    1. Re: [Antigonish] Levangie Information
    2. Hi Lorraine, If you do find info on this famliy, please post to the list as I'd be very interested in the results. In my notes I found that I have a Maurice LAVANDIER/LEVANGIE who would be about the right age, but he married 1874 to Celeste COSTE. It appears that his marriage record was recorded twice; once in Jan and once in Feb. I see that one of the witnesses was Patrick WEBB. Here is his two marriage records: Civil marriage record Jan. 19, 1874 at Tracadie; groom: Maurice LAVANDIER; age 25; Bachelor; occupation: Mariner; residence at Har. Boucher, born at Same; parents: Fred'k. & Mary, parents’ occupation: Farmer; bride: Celeste DE COSTE; age 21; Spinster; residence at Little Tracadie, born at [left blank]; Ed. & Labora[?] Coste, parents’ occupation: Farmer; witnesses: Charles DeCoste & Patrick Webb. Same marriage but recorded again. Civil marriage record Feb. 19, 1874 at Tracadie; groom: Maurice LAVANDIER; age 25; Bachelor; occupation: Mariner; residence at Har. Boucher, born at Same; parents: Frederick Levandier & Mary DeCoste, parents’ occupation: Farmer; bride: Celeste DE COSTE; age 21; Spinster; residence at Little Tracadie, born at Same; parents: Ed. & Labine Coste, parents’ occupation: Farmer; [witnesses left blank]. The records above were transcribed by Mary Ferguson and are posted at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~delorey/antimarr.html If nothing else, this may help to narrow the field. 3. There were two posts this morning, one from Phil & Ann Irons and one from Ernie Manganiello asking about M(a)cINTYREs. If the information I have is correct, you two are cousins. Margaret MacINTYRE and John McINTYRE who you mention are sister and brother, two of ten children of John MacINTYRE and Sarah McPHEE, immigrants. I don't have much backup for this, so please keep the list posted as to what information you find out! Joe -- Joe Makowiec can be reached at: http://makowiec.org/contact/?Joe http://makowiec.org/

    3. Hi Joe et al: Just a clarification....the diocesan offices are NOT behind the Cathedral. That building contains the offices for St. Ninian Cathedral Parish. The diocesan office, ie. office of the Bishop/Chancellor is located on Hawthorne St. and is a separate entity altogether from the parish. Added information from the same source: He attended St FX and Grand Séminaire, Montréal; Served as a curate at Sydney Mines, New Glasgow and Glace Bay; pastor at Lochaber 1920-28; Pastor of Guysborough 1928-1950. Buried at Saint Ninian's Cemetery. If you have a chance to get down to Antigonish, you might check with the diocesan offices (behind the cathedral), the archives at St FX (basement of the library), and Special Collections in the St FX library (third floor). The obituaries from The Casket for priests and parents of priests tend to be particularly informative. The other place to visit would be the Antigonish Heritage Museum. It would be worth taking a trip down for the day. Note - I'm guessing on the following; I'd confirm every last bit of it: In some notes from another MacINTYRE family which is probably related to the one I'm working on, I have a Margaret who married Angus MacISAAC "the tailor" (who was married twice) Issue: Angus, Mary Jane - (who played the piano). This Margaret MacINTYRE's parents were John MacINTYRE and Sarah McPHEE; she was the 10th child. (Child #7, Archie MacINTYRE, was born 1843.) The notes I have go on: "About 1841, John MacIntyre, wife and children came from South Uist (Scotland)) with first six children. The sixth, Mary, was born on the boat. Landed at Mulgrave - met there by John's 1/2 brother (John also). Left trunk of dishes etc at the wharf (lost). Came to Heatherton walking and "spell about" on the white horse." As I said, I know nothing about the provenance of that information, and it bears being checked out. 1. Post 1901 Census -- URGENT S-18 UPDATE
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. URGENT S-18 UPDATEGreetings All. FYI Gordon ----- Original Message ----- From: Paul, Jeff: SEN To: [email protected] Subject: URGENT S-18 UPDATE Hi there everyone There have been some important develoments in S-18 and Senator Milne needs your help. As many of you may know, Conservative Senator Lynch-Staunton took the adjournment of the debate of the bill yesterday. This means that no progress can be made on the bill until he speaks. We have found out that he will not be in the Senate next week and that he does not intend to speak on the bill until the government promises to hold hearings on a private Senator's bill that Senator Stratton still hasn't even introduced. This development has the potential to delay progress on the bill by several weeks. Senator Milne needs your help to put pressure on the Conservatives to move ahead with S-18. We need people to write to: Senator John Lynch-Staunton: [email protected] Senator Terrence Stratton: [email protected] Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party in the Senate You can also call the Senate at 1-800-267-7362 and ask for Sen. Stratton's office or Sen. Lynch-Staunton's office and explain to their staff that you want to see action on this bill. Senator Stratton is from Manitoba and Sen. Lynch-Staunton is from Quebec. If you are from those provinces a call may be especially helpful. You should urge both of these Senators to allow S-18 to move forward, and encourage Sen. Lynch-Staunton to speak on the bill as soon as possible. We also need to lean on Stephen Harper to get him to realize that his Senate Caucus is holding up a bill that is supported by the Conservative Party. If your MP is Conservative, I strongly encourage you to write to him or her and ask them to put pressure on the Conservative Senators who are holding up the bill. We can't do much from our end because Conservatives can tell us to go to hell without there being any consequences. They can't do the same thing to the general pubilc. Good luck you guys. I hope that once again we can have your support. Jeff Paul Policy Advisor Office of the Hon. Lorna Milne Ph: (613) 947-9744 Cell: (613) 715-2965

    1. Who was John Thomas Hill?
    2. Don MacFarlane
    3. I have been researching MacFarlane-related Land Grants and deeds in Antigonish County for the early 19th century (1801-1850). The name of John Thomas Hill of Halifax appears a number of times buying and selling tracts of land in the South River area to MacFarlanes. Can anyone further identify him and businesses?
