    1. Re: Tracadie and Quincy/Weymouth, Massachusetts
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Delorey Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/QOC.2ACE/145.1 Message Board Post: My great-grandfather lived in E. Braintree, right next to Weymouth. He and his wife (also a DeLorey, third cousins) came from Tracadie in the 1880's, and had numerous relatives in the Weymouth/Quincy area. He worked at the shipyard in Weymouth. During this time period, the two main occupations in the Tracadie area were farmer and/or sailor/fisherman. The land is better suited to pastureland than crops. And fishing is a dangerous business. With the industrial revolution in full swing, more money could be made by going down to the "Boston States" and getting a job in a factory, shipyard, etc. Naturally, word got back to the relatives at home, and there was a large exodus during that period. Also, these people were very family oriented, so it made sense to settle close to other relatives who had come down. Great-grandfather had 2 sisters and 4 brothers. From my genealogy research I found that they all ended up in MA.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: D'hooge, Dewey, Petitpas, Pitts, Perrault, Perrow Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/QOC.2ACE/145 Message Board Post: Does anyone know the connections between these 2 areas. As I research a number of families from Tracadie (D'hooge, Petitpas, Perrault) I find that many re-located from these towns. I also find numerous other Tracadie natives in this area not related to these names (Breen, DeLorey, Bennett, etc.). I know some of my relatives were working at the shipyard. Any insights anyone can offer on the migration to Quincy and Weymouth from Tracadie would be helpful. Thanks!

Stephen White notes the marriage of Benoni Leblanc and Emilie Chiasson at Cheticamp on Jan. 26, 1835 (search benoni leblanc family pitre bourg). Felix was of course born on 23 Nov. 1843, giving us a possible fit. Is it possible that the Melanie listed as Felix's mother at his wedding could actually be Emilie? I think it perhaps unlike ly that in the late 1830's in the area of Cheticamp a Benoni Leblanc married a Melanie Chiasson, and a different Benoni Leblanc married an Emilie Chiasson. What do you think?

    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gordon A. Watts" <[email protected]> To: "Canada Census Campaign" <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, December 06, 2004 3:52 PM Subject: Post 1901 Census - Legal action by Information Commissioner Greetings All My thanks to Norma Brown for forwarding to me her letter, dated 3 December 2004, from the Information Commissioner's office advising that his legal action on our behalf is under way. The pertinent sections of that letter state: "I write this letter to inform you that on November 9, 2004 the Information Commissioner of Canada filed an application for review under the Federal Court Rules. This application, filed in the Federal Court as T-1996-04, relates to the refusal by the head of Statistics Canada (the Minister of Industry) to disclose the records you requested unde the Access to Information Act." "On November 29, 2004, the Federal Court directed that this notice of application be amended to include the matter of the refusal to disclose the 1911 census records to 95 other individuals who had complained to the Information Commissioner of Canada between July 7, 2003 and October 5, 2004." It is expected that the other 95 complainants will be receiving similar letters although as I write this I have not yet received my own. The letter also advises that complainants may appear as a party in the case but anyone choosing to do so would be required to pay their own expenses. A form letter was included for complainants to advise whether or not they wished to participate in the Application. Those receiving such letters should complete and return them as soon as possible. The letter also indicates that on the website of the Information Commissioner (www.infocom.gc.ca) there will soon be a folder added entitled "Litigation" which will contain information concerning the various stages of the proceeding, including the Information Commissioner's representations and affidavit and documentary evidence. As I write this I have been unable to find this new folder but I will be checking often for it and will advise when it appears. Happy Hunting Gordon A. 1. Re: Anna DesLAURIER ca 1787-1866
    2. Hi Jim, Thank you for your well-reasoned answer! Your theory is a good one and seems quite possible. So, I've been trying to think of what evidence might be available to prove or disprove your theory. One thing that goes against your theory is that in her 1866 civil death record Anne is listed as a widow [I sure wish it mentioned her deceased husband's name]. But, in my notes I have it that Luc GIROUARD/GERRIOR didn't die until 2 years later in Apr 1868. I do not have his civil death record, so I don't know if he was a widower at the time of his death. Next, I took a look at the birthplaces for children of Luc GIROUARD & Anne DESLAURIERS. Like everything else there are contradictions. Pierre Girouard's website has children 7, 8, 10, and 11 born in Guysborough Co. Lloyd Boucher, on the other hand, has these children born at Tracadie. http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET& db=antigonish&id=I262 And, in the 1866 marriage record for Isidore GIROUARD, child 8, his residence is listed as Tor Bay, but his birth place is listed as Tracadie. I checked the Tracadie Old Burials, hoping for a tombstone with dates, but I don't find either Luc or his wife among those listed, so at this point I don't know where they are buried: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/2516/Tracadie.htm Anyone have anything that might prove Jim's theory? Thanks in advance!
