I think we are just going to have to assume that Anne in Havre Boucher was Elie-David's widow. Who else would she be? She is listed as the head of the house hold even though her brother and sister in law lived there before. I wonder if the land was actually Elie-David's that he let Louis and family live on while he went to PEI. Maybe I'll try some land records and see how far that gets me. I wonder what situation happened in my family's past that would cause a woman to leave her children and grandchildren in PEI and move to Havre Boucher. Maybe they just didn't get along. I am hoping it had more to do with the land issue. Hope New Years was great for you. Take care, Jennifer

Hello Chris, It is the family of Ranald (who fought at Killiecrankie and Sheriffmuir) and his wife Margaret Cameron of Lochiel that I research.........your Ranald I assume is one of their younger sons, of whom it is said called out in support of BPC " Though no other man in the Highlands whould draw a sword, I am ready to die for you" and of whom much has been written, including that he had a famil of 21 or more, most of whom migrated to The Americas The following is quoted from copy of an entry held in the Catholic Archives in Edinburgh: It is the information re James of Kinlochmoidart (in bold font) the youngest of the brothers to fight at Culloden, that I seek. Are there any Kinlochmoidart descendants who carry material re the period before they left Kinlochmoidart? or when they first arrived?..... Val THE KINLOCHMOIDART FAMILY Donald MacDonald lV of Kinlochmoidart left five sons, the eldest of whom (Alexander) was only nine years of age at the time of the father's execution in 1746. The Laird was also survived by seven brothers, five of whom has been involved in the '45 Aeneas, who had a banking business in Paris, arrived with the Prince on board the Du Teillay. He and his brother Allan (an officer in the Clanronald regiment) surrendered to Major-General Campbell at the beginning of June, 1746 Aeneas was tried and found Guilty of high treason but on 7 July 1748 he received a conditional pardon involving perpetual banishment. A creditor then obtained his further detention for debt. He eventually released on 11 December 1749. He returned to France and is said to have been killed in the Revolution. Allan was discharge on 1 January 1747 and appears to have returned to the Kinlochmoidart estate. From a letter written by his brother Dr John to Aeneas, it seems that Allan was still living at "Shuseavegg" with his mother in May 1751 according to Origins of the '45 he joined Aeneas in France and with him eventually perished in the Reolution, but this is very doubtful. Another of the brothers, Dr John surrendered to Captain Fergusson in the circumstances recounted inVol 3 of the Lyon in Mourning. He was kept in custody by never brought to trail. He was released after the passing of the Act of Indemnity in June, 1747. He returned to Kinlochmoidart and settled there. Another brother James, escaped after being captured at Culloden. He was one of the persons specifically excluded from the General Pardon, but he was never re-captured. He is supposed to have gone to America. The last of the brothers who were engaged in the '45 is Ranald, The Edinburgh Evening Courant (11 August 1746) gives the following account of his capture, together with Young Clanronald's Lt Col Allan MacDonald of Morar - A Party of the corps under Colonel Campbell have apprehended in Moidart, the Lt Col of Clanronald's Regiment wit his servants in a cave. Captain Noble has laid hold of Captain Ranald McDonald a brother of Kinlochmoidart. Vast quantities of Arms, Ammunition several Saddles and Boots have been found in the Rocks, Some English horses as they were roaming in the woods were secured al the cattle of the outstanding parties have been brought into the camp by the General's orders so that the Rebels must either surrender leave the country of starve. Ranald seems to have been eventually released like Allan and Dr John and to have gone to live at Irvine of all places

Hi to all on the board, I am also descended from the Kinlochmoidart line of MacDonalds. John MacDonald, pioneer, arrived in Arisaig, NS in 1790, along with his wife and young son, Alexander (Solomon) MacDonald, whose was my GGGGrandfather. This excerpt is from MacLean's History of Antigonish: "John MacDonald, pioneer, was the son of Angus, son of Ronald, son of Lewis, son of Donald. Family tradition says that Ronald was the lad whose enthusiasm for the cause of Prince Charlie induced the reluctant Chiefs aboard the Doutelle to come out in the fatal rising known as "the '45". John came out from Scotland in 1790, and built a log house on a small knoll near the present day Glebe House in Arisaig. In 1801 he sold his farm to the church in Arisaig and moved to Lakevale, where he bought a block of 500 acres. John was married in Scotland to Margaret MacDonald, also of the Kinlochmoidart line, and their son Alexander who later became known as "Solomon" was born in the old country. Their second son Angus was born on the emigrant ship. Other children were Ronald, Colin, Catherine, Margaret and Rebecca..." I had reached a "brick wall" after several years of genealogical research, so we took a trip a trip to NS last summer. Quite by chance, we met some distant relatives who helped us put the pieces together. For the past two years I have been trying to trace some of the missing links into two Cadet lines of Clan Donald, those of Barrisdale and Kinlochmoidart.. From a very old Family Bible transported to, 'The Carolinas' a transcription was taken around late 1800's of the marriages and births in the family of Mary Margaret daughter of Coll MacDonell 2nd of Barrisdale and James MacDonald of Kinlochmoidart. Now we all know the difficulty of tracing 18th Century Scottish Catholic records during these Penal Years, and as the Bible record is a transcript of an old (now lost bible) it is not admissible evidence without corroboration from another source......and that brings me here to the CAN-NS-ANTIGONISH list. Both the Kinlochmoidart line and the Barrisdale lines connect into the MacDonalds who migrated to PEI and other Canadian areas, Mary Margaret was a cousin to Spanish John, and it is recorded in old letters that she and James went north from the Carolinas during the period 1772-1776 for family, which being troubled times in that period, indicates that the Family business must have been important. What I cherish is, that some of those researchers who descend from these Clan Donald lines may have also kept old family letters which may make mention of family coming from the Carolinas to visit, any Borrodale, Kinlochmoidart or Barrisdale descendants out there who would like to make contact? Hi, I don't know if you are aware of it but a three Borrodale MacDonalds settled in Inverness County in Cape Breton on a farm now called "Dungarry". They were locally called the "Shugarry" MacDonalds and were the children of Rory MacDonald. They were Iain "Mor" MacDonald, his brother Alexander "Mor" and their sister Mary. Iain "Mor" married Catherine MacNeil of Little Judique and had descendants; Alexander "Mor" married a Miss MacGillivray of Inverness-shire, Scotland and had descendants. Their sister Mary married John MacLeod "mac Niall" from the Isle of Eigg. Her eldest son, Fr. William Bernard MacLeod, V.G. (Jun. 17,1798-May 20, 1881) , was the first native son of the Diocese of Antigonish to be ordained to the priesthood. His younger brother, Msgr. Neil MacLeod, V.G. (1807-Nov. 16, 1891) was born at Knoydart (then in Arisaig parish), Nova Scotia, and was the first domestic prelate in the diocese. These MacLeods would be be the same family that the noted Canadian author Alistair Macleod belongs to. The MacLeods in Dunvegan and Broad Cove and those of Glencoe, all in Inverness County, are all related. They were all "Eiggach". Allan J. Hi Everyone, I hope everyone had a great New Years and I am following along with this great suggestion of introducing myself to my fellow listers. I am Joe Quirk originally from Guysborough, Nova Scotia, I moved from there at a very young age to Antigonish and from there to Toronto. I am now living in Keswick, Ontario which is about an hour north of Toronto. I have been able to trace back on my father's side with documentation to my great grandfather and I only have hand down information on my gggrandfather. I have been told his name was Michael, born about 1810 in either Ireland or the Isle of Man and came to Canada with two brothers, one that went to Newfoundland and the other to Cape Breton, but I have not been able to find out anymore about them. Great Grandfather - John Quirk born 1850 - died 1923 married to Jane McDonald 1856-1916 and they had 8 children, Alfred, Francis, William, James, Vincent, Louis, Mamie and Nellie Grandfather - Alfred Jan. 6, 1889 - Feb. 15, 1966 married Margaret Chisholm 1891-1969 and they had one child, Finlay my father If anyone comes across the Quirk surname from any of the eastern provinces I would appreciate the information. Thanks Joe Quirk
Well I finally made it back to searching for my elusive ancestors. If someone would be so kind to look up the following obits it would be greatly appreciated......Thanks Joe Quirk 1) Mary Catherine CHISHOLM - nee Quirk 1924-1989 as well as her husband Bernard (don't have any further info on him) 2) Johanna "Josie" Elizabeth Campbell - nee Quirk 1932-Dec.21,2003 died I believe in New Glasgow - Married to Malcolm A. CAMPBELL who died in Halifax (would appreciate his obit as well)
I finally got to looking over cemetery pictures from summer 2004. Pictures are of variants of the MacDONELL surname in Enfield, Hants County and Saint Andrew's, Antigonish County. http://makowiec.org/maritimes/2004/ Please write me if you can add any information to what I already have.
