    1. [Antigonish] Saint Ninian's Cemetery
    2. Joe Makowiec
    3. As promised, I found and added a number of memorials to Saint Ninian's Cemetery. Names include: Cameron Fraser Grant M(a)cIntyre MacIsaac MacKinnon McLellan https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2208995/saint-ninian's-roman-catholic-cemetery Let me add a plea to everybody: please go out and help document your local cemeteries. The pictures I've added in the past couple of days are 18 years old. I'd hate to think what some of the stones look like now. Sandstone and marble markers in particular are susceptible to weathering and acid rain, and are deteriorating even as we swap emails. And a second plea to our Canadian cousins: In the past year or so, I've added a number of FindAGrave records to South River Cemetery in Saint Andrews, Saint Ninian's Cemetery in Antigonish and Saint Bernard's Cemetery in Enfield. All three are reasonably large cemeteries. Yet as of today, those cemeteries have respectively 465, 69 and 177 memorials. Please help document cemeteries throughout the Maritimes for we poor folk Away. Joe -- Joe Makowiec can be reached at: http://makowiec.org/contact/?Joe http://makowiec.org/

The Antigonish Heritage Museum announced in an email today the Antigonish Cenotaph Project: https://antigonishcenotaphproject.wordpress.com/ According to the site, "This blog displays the work of a committee established by the Antigonish Heritage Museum. Its goal is to honor the memory of Antigonish town and county's fallen First World War soldiers by compiling a summary of their family background and military service. Their stories will be published on this blog on the 100th anniversary of their deaths." If you click on the first link ("First World War Honour Roll of Antigonish County, Nova Scotia"), published today, Armistice Day, it will take you to a list of 97 Antigonish County service members killed in or who died as a result of the Great War. Apropos which, does anybody know about Sergeant John Cameron MacEachern, who appears on the list? He's listed in the 1911 census as son of Lachlin MacEachern and Annie MacEachern. 3. Hi Everyone! You have been missed! I just wanted to let you know that the Antigonish website has been restored and is now available. http://sites.rootsweb.com/~nsantigo/ It looks like the rest of the Nova Scotia counties have been restored too. Many of them weren't working last week. Enjoy! 3. (Sort of) off topic: This year marks the 150th year of Canadian Confederation. (It was convenient that the Fathers of Confederation saw fit to arrange for Canada Day 2017 to fall on a Saturday!) For those of us who will be traveling down East from Away this year: does anybody know of an online listing (or even an offline listing which can be posted) of Sesquicentennial events in Antigonish and around the province? I grew up in upstate New York, about 20 miles south of the Canadian border, and I have fond memories of going to Expo 67 in Montréal. It was a day trip for us, and we went a number of times. 3. I just added a whole bunch of names to Saint Bernard's Cemetery, Enfield on FindAGrave: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&GRid=168951901&CRid=2355651& Obligatory reference to Antigonish County genealogy: The M(a)cDON(N)ELL families of Saint Andrew's and South Side Harbor came from the Nine Mile River / Enfield area, so many of these MacDONELLs are related. If anybody is interested in this family, please write me. Spelling Note: there are records in this cemetery under MacDonell, MacDonnell, McDonell and McDonnell. Note also Emma Mary MacDonnell Horne.
