Recognizing: My husband's uncle, killed in Viet Nam My uncle, who fought in the Korean War. His two older brothers, who fought in WWII Their father, gassed in Europe in WWI. He hated going to Europe and fighting the Germans because his neighbors at home were German farmers, but he did his duty. "Cousins" Charles N. McKeown and his nephew William Harland Balcom, of the Middleton NS area, died in WWI. I found them at http://www.collectionscanada.ca/02/02010602_e.html Andrew P. Felton, injured in the Civil War - his granddaughter Josie married Frank D. Hodges of Morristown NS. No history book or movie made this war "real" to me until I visited Gettysburg and other battle sites. Ancestor Oliver Perham, who fought in the American Revolutionary War - and also recognizing those who because of the strength of their Loyalist convictions, chose to move north to Canada. And let us not forget the young veterans deployed around the world... Susan
Susan- The McKeown's caught my eye. I'm trying to find out what happened to the family of Elizabeth Hannah McKeown who married John Hector MacLean. I found her parents Andrew and Elizabeth and her siblings on the 1881 census. Her parents died in 1891 but I can't find the rest of the McKeown's on the 1901 census. I have found her parents graves and those of a couple of siblings in New Albany, NS Are you researching the McKeown's? Is anyone else on the list? Hi Christina, I am trying to track the family of a Moses McKeown of Nictaux. Moses was born in 1821 and married Mary Elizabeth BOHAKER on 29 Dec 1859. Moses' parents were Samuel McKeown (1789 - 1871) and Sarah Burnett (1786 - 1862). Moses and Mary Elizabeth had four children that I know of: Sarah A (1860), Mary E. (1862) Samuel (1863) and Frederick S. (1873). The family may have moved to Lowell, MA but I haven't had any luck finding them. If these folks sound familiar to anybody please let me know. Thanks in advance, Mary Anne On 11 Nov 2004 at 21:00, Christina MacLean wrote: > Susan- The McKeown's caught my eye. Mary Anne I don't have them in my tree but Samuel sounds familiar. I might have seen him in my search but couldn't connect him. There's probably a connection somewhere but I can't see it right now.
