To all:- After many hours of hard work by Senator Lorna Milne on our behalf for release of the 1911 census, as Gordon Watts states "take a breather" -- BUT in nicely chosen quiet words remind every phone-in talk show, etc. the ones who served our country in World War One are only listed if they were killed. The Books of Remembrance are incomplete -- families of those who fought for us are only listed on the 1911 census. Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~downhome/committee.html ======================= MESSAGE FROM GORDON WATTS Greetings All. It is official. Bill S-13 is dead. This afternoon Prime Minister Jean Chetien announced that Parliament has been prorogued. This means that all unfinished business before Parliament dies on the Order Paper. The next session of Parliament is scheduled to start 12 January 2004. Hopefully this will allow us the time necessary to see our legal action scheduled for a hearing before the Federal Court and to receive a favourable verdict for the release of the 1911 Census. With a change of Prime Minister, and new Cabinet Members, perhaps we may get some that will listen to us instead of listening to the dictates of the Chief Statistician. Take a breather, and get ready to start writing letters once again. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. To all:- Gordon is the Hansard reader -- or had notification from CPAC. In Ontario, on Rogers, I obtain CPAC on Channel 68. Find it now -- this is the Canada's Public Affairs Channel which will also be broadcasting the life of Rick Hansen. Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee ===== SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM GORDON WATTS ===== Greetings all. While not originally shown on the House of Commons Projected Order of Business for the coming week, Bill S-13 now shows up on the schedule for Monday. There are two Bills at Report Stage scheduled before Bill S-13. It is possible that debate on those two Bills could take up all the available time and they will not get to S-13 but there is no certainty this will happen. Debate on the earlier scheduled Bills, C-46 and C-20, starts at 3:00 PM Ottawa time. The House normally adjourns at 6:30 PM so that leaves 3.5 hours available Monday for debate on all Bills on the schedule. There is currently 3 hours and 25 minutes left available for Second Reading debate for S-13. House proceedings are televised through CPAC on channel 396 for StarChoice satellite subscribers. Bell ExpressView and cable subscribers will have to check their listings to find what channels to watch. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Sederquest - Pickle - Keen: John Sederquist, a Loyalist, first shows up in Saint John in 1785. By 1790, he is in Granville, Nova Scotia where three of his children were baptized. I am particularly interested in his son, James Sederquest, who resided at Lakeside near Hampton, Kings County, New Brunswick until his death in 1880. He first was married to Elizabeth Pickle in 1812 and after her death to Mary Wiggins. One son, John Harvey Sederquest married Amanda Keen of Maine and served in the Civil War in the United States. After the close of the war, John Harvey Sederquest and his family lived in Kings County at Cassidy Lake on the farm where Camp Tulakadik is now located. My direct line comes from their son Albert, who was born in Princeton, Maine in 1862, raised on the farm at Cassidy Lake and lived most of his adult years in Massachusetts. Any information on anyone connected to the Sederquest name, would be most appreciated. I would also like to find photos of the home at Cassidy Lake, Clover Hill which in later years was owned by son, Cassius Sederquest. Thank you for any information regarding surnames. Diana

Hi Susan, I don't have any Hodges or Vroom but I am trying to track two McKeown families in Annapolis County. I have a Moses McKeown (b. 28 Aug 1821), son of Samuel McKeown and Sarah Burnett, who married Mary Alizabeth Bohaker. They had 4 children: Sarah b. 1860, Mary b. 1862, Samuel b. 1863 and Frederick b. 1873. I also have a William B. McKeown and wife Rebecca whose daughter Minnie Blanche married James C. Young on 19 Nov 1902. Do any of these McKeowns sound familiar? Mary Anne William married Rebecca Lavina Hodges, she is brother of my great-great grandfather Jonathan Hodges. I have Rebecca b 31 Jan 1840, d 1927, m 1865 to William B. McKeown b 27 Aug 1845, Annapolis Co, d 1936. They are buried at Pine Grove, Middleton, NS. I have just starting finding the kids. I have Minnie B b 1867, Hattie A. b 1869, and Charles b 7 Aug 1879, so far. Rebecca and family were in the 1881 census at Clarence, Annapolis NS. William was listed as a farmer, with the family's religion as Baptist and ethnic origin Irish. They were also in the 1901 census with Minnie B. and Charles. I believe that Rebecca is d/o Jonathan Hodges b. about 1799, d 1869, and Ruth __?__, b 1800. I found an item (extract of will) where Stephen Taylor lists his children, including Ruth Hodges. Ruth and Jonathan also had a son (apparently) named Stephen Taylor Hodges, so it is a pretty reasonable guess that this could be Ruth's father. I have all of Jonathan's children (Rebecca's siblings) and spouses, if you are interested. I have not found Jonathan senior's parents. I do know that there is, in the same area and time, a Jonathan C. Hodges, who also had a son Jonathan C, and lots of other children, and it is taking a while to sort out who belongs to which Jonathan Sr. My mother had a letter written in 1951 written by her great aunt Etha Hodges, who was reminiscing about Nova Scotia. She said that "Aunt Becky lived on the post road to Lawrencetown, about 12 miles west, or southwest, of Middleton. Her name was McKeown, we called it "McKween". Like Hodges, it was a Scotch-Irish name." She said that in the 1890s, the (Annapolis) valley was famous for apples, which were shipped everywhere. I think (from internet research) that William McKeown is s/o John McKeown and Sarah Ann Whitman, but since this is not an actual ancestor of mine, I haven't researched that name except for where it connected into Hodges. I don't have original records for most of my information, but have working from Internet resources such as FamilySearch.org and Rootsweb, as well as the Kings Co and Annapolis Co Gen Web sites. No guarantees as to the accuracy, but most of this is "probable". Let me know if you want more information on Rebecca's siblings and their spouses. Should one be interested, tune into CPAC -- the times are given about 10 AM -- do not always follow the clock!! Contact either Gordon A. Watts or myself if you desire further information, please. Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee ======================== --- Message from Gordon Watts below --- Greetings All. While many of us thought that Second Reading debate in the House of Commons re: Bill S-13 was unlikely to take place before government prorogued, it appears that we may have under-estimated the government's desire to have something passed before the courts deal with our current legal action. (This is speculation on my part.) The first session of this debate has just finished. The opening speaker was Serge Marcil (Liberal), Parliamentary Secretary to Industry Minister Allan Rock. It is unfortunate that Mr. Rock did not see fit to open the debate himself. Others speaking to the Bill were Brian Masse (NDP), Larry Bagnell (Liberal), Grant McNally (CA), Paul Crete (Bloc), Peter Adams (Liberal), Paul Szabo (Liberal) and Gerald Keddy (PC). One Member spoke briefly on two occasions. He seems to have a one track mind stuck on 'privacy in perpetuity'. In my humble opinion his one track mind is 'derailed'. I will not mention his name here but in reading the Hansard transcription of the debate there will be no doubt about who it is. The Hansard transcription will not be online until tomorrow. I should be able to have it on the Post 1901 Census Project website by Wednesday. I assume that debate will continue tomorrow (Tuesday) and each Hansard transcription will be placed on the website as soon as possible. The motion before the House is to have Second Reading on S-13 and refer it to the House Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology. I have already notified the Clerk of the Committee that I wish to testify before the Committee. Anyone considering submitting written submissions to the Committee should start working on them now. Greetings I am researching the Hodges family, specifically Jonathan Hodges s/o Jonathan Hodges and Ruth (possibly Taylor). I am looking for information about his wife Henrietta d/o Catherine Jones and John Ditmars Vroom. I'm also interested in the "in-laws", Taylor, Banks, Ewing, McKeown. I'll happily share what I have. Hi Jerry, I am very familiar with the Granville Township Book. I would be very interested in knowing where the oldest children were born and also Andrew. The only facts I know about him are that he was married to a Sarah and they had 13 children. He had a land grant in Granville, lot 10, which I have visited. The house now standing there is called The White Place. It is not the original house. It was named The White Place after the original owners. The second to the last owner had an art gallery in the house. It is not far from the Habitation but on the opposite side of the road. I took a picture of the house. It is in a beautiful spot.. the mountains are in the background and it overlooks the water. I am trying to connect Granville Andrew , supposedly a New England Planter,{though I have not found him on the Planters List} to a Sudbury, Ma Andrew , also married to a Sarah{ Raleigh, Riley Realy} Do you have any documentation that would prove the two men are the same person? There are no records of Andrew's oldest children's birth in Sudbury or any surrounding towns. I live 20 miles from Sudbury. There is no record of Sudbury Andrew's birthplace either. Sarah was born in Sudbury. I have her birth record and know details of her family if you are interested.. To thicken the plot, I am trying to connect Sudbury Andrew with Marshfield,Ma Andrew White, a direct descendant of Pilgrim Peregrine White Any help will be great. Judy.
Hi John, I am directly descended from Edward White. He would be my gggrandfather. As you mentioned he was married to Freelove Mcbride. My line continues as follows: Edward, John, Minard, Donald {my Dad}. To go back, from Edward, his father was John and then notorious Andrew White, supposedly the New England Planter who was granted land in Granville in 1765. I have been studying this man for many years and trying to make a documented connection with Granvillle Andrew to a Sudbury Ma Andrew to a Marshfield Ma Andrew White who was a dieect descendant of Pilgrim Peregrine White. To date all is circumstantial. N.S. Andrew's wife is named Sarah as is Sudbury Andrew's wife. Sudbury Andrew served in the Sudbury Militia in 1755- 57 . Sarah Raleigh White of Sudbury,Ma was the daughter of Phillip Raleigh and Susanna Joiner. Phillip left his family in Sudbury and went up to Antrim , N.H. and was the first settler there in 1744. He built a house and I suppose would bring his family later but after a year was driven out by indians and so returned to Sudbury. He did return to Antrim15 years later with his family. I thought perhaps Andrew and Sarah might have gone along and their oldest children might have been born there as there are no records in Sudbury of their births. Antrim town clerk just wrote me saying no records there either The above info regarding Phillip is found in Cochrane's History of Antrim, N.H. If you can add any more info, I would like to hear from you. Judy
Dear Ruth, Thank you for your prompt reply. I have been researching my White rots for about seven years and can trace my line from Anbdrew 's son John right up to my dad. No Problem! It has been much more of a challenge to trace Andrew back. Andrew White in Sudbury , Ma. married Sarah Raleigh in 1759. There is no birthplace recorded in the Sudbury VR's for Andrew. I have checked the nearby towns and also nothing recorded. Also nothing recorded regarding their oldest children. The younger ones were born in N.S. There is little info recorded on Marshfield, Ma. Andrew White except that he and his siblings were orphaned and he is mentioned in his marernal grandfather's will. I have tried to make a connection {documented } between N.S. , Sudbury, Marshfield Andrew White but have never succeeded. Marshfield Andrew was a direct descendant of Peregrine White. If you have any documented records will let me know. Maybe then I could solve this mystery.
Hi List Noticed that the White family seems to be on some agendas today; I'm still looking for the connection of Whites who had sons James White = Emma Emy Harris McBride and possibly a brother Edward White who = Love F. McBride ; both marriages likely around the 1820's. I believe Jerry and i have corresponded but any help would be appreciated from those researching the Whites of Annapolis. Unfortunately I can't be of much help at the moment - still cleaning up and repairing from Hurrucane Juan but will be able to help with McBride end in a few weeks. Thanks for any help or suggestions - I have the Township Books, Calnek, etc. John
My mother was born in Bear River, Digby Cty., Nova Scotia and she had cousins who were Henshaws. Ruth J
I think you are right. I have a Mary White in my line, who was a New England Planter. She was descended from A Raleigh. If you do a Google search on "Four NOva Scotia Families," I think you will find what you are looking for. Ruth J P.S. I am also descended from the same line and these Whites are descended from Peregrine White of the Mayflower.
Judy: The Old Granville Township Book shows an Andrew White and Sarah, his wife, (no last name shown) and 13 children: John, Mary, Sarah, Philip, Timothy, Susannah, Ester, Cattee, Andrew, Loes, Elizabeth, Rebeccah and Pegge. If this family for whom you are searching. I'll send you birthdates for the children. The book also has info on the marriage of daughter Elizabeth to James Fleet and shows her children.
