Author: philo13 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.newfoundland.centralnewfoundland/42.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello I am a descendant of Paul Petit dit Lalumiere, born 1662 in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada. Paul was the son of Nicolas-Romain Petit dit Lapree and Marie Pomponnelle, both who came from France to New France in 1649 and 1656. Paul was not baptized with the "dit" name Lalumiere, he came to add that "dit" name to his name Petit at some point in his life. My hunch is that he took on that name when in the Militia in 1721 when he was a captain in the local Militia, I don't have any proof however. If anyone has any information or suggestions as to how he acquired the "dit" name Lalumiere, I would be grateful. Merci, thank you, Janet Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: Bbdonovan Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.newfoundland.centralnewfoundland/153.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi there! Through your research, I wonder if you've come across anything relating to a John (Richard?) Powers of St. John's, NL. He would have been born in the 1830s and died at sea in the 1870s. He was married to a Mary Anne Stentiford (also of St. John's). They were married Catholic (she was raised Church of England), but I don't know where because they eloped - I've never heard of another Catholic elopement, but maybe I'm just sheltered...They had 4 children in St. John's: Richard, Alice, Mary, John. Anything you've happened to come across or any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! Brian Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: tswornum Surnames: Braithwaite and Besso Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.newfoundland.centralnewfoundland/166.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: We must be related! My great grand-dad on my mom's (Rosalind Wornum) side, Vernol Ethelwood Braithwaite aka Dad was born in Sydney or Newfoundland. I cannot remember which one but he lived in Halifax until he passed away in December of 2008. Dad's mom was Mary Besso of Canada, she was a Caucasian woman, and his dad Charles Braithwaite was from Christ Church, Barbados. I'm only 22 and I live in the States as well. I know my Canadian roots but I want to know more about our Bajan roots, and when I really became more interested it was too late because Dad had passed away. I actually just came back from Barbados aka BIM for the first time last month and this woman that was working in the souvneir store asked me if I was Bajan and I told her that my great-granddad was Bajan and Canadian and she said I knew you had some Bajan in you b/c you're friendly just like us. Idk if this is a Bajan thing but pretty much everyone on my mom's side has a gap between the front of our teeth and I! thought it was like a family trait because I typically do not see many people with it. But when I was in Barbados omg everyone, I tell ya, had a gap! It was a great experience I loved Crop over- Kadooment, Foreday, everything! One day you have to go. The next time I go hopefully I can do some research and find family members! If you want to reach out to me I can be reached at tswornum@gmail.com! I would love to chat or hear about the family info you have found! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
