Hello all, My name is Sharyn Hay and I am your new List Administrator. I may do things a bit differently than the previous Administrator, so I am sending to the list the first part of the Welcome message that all new subscribers will receive. It lists the rules I use with all of my lists so there will be no confusion in the future. In addition to these rules, I request the following: Please do not use signature blocks longer than 4 lines. Please do not include lists of names you are researching that are not the topic of your post. Regards, Sharyn Welcome to the CAN-NB-YORK mailing list! My name is Sharyn Hay and I am your List Administrator. This list if for all who have an interest in the CAN-NB-YORK region for genealogical purposes. We'd all like to get to know each other, our areas of research, and our kinship lines. It's lots of fun to meet new "cousins" this way. So, please post a message to CAN-NB-YORK-L@rootsweb.com and help us get to know you, and you'll get to know us as well. If you need to contact me, see #6 below. Don't forget to save a copy of this message for future reference. There are a few simple rules that will keep this list fun for everyone: 1. Remember that all messages to the list are archived by Rootsweb and can be seen by ANYONE at any time by clicking on the Archives link on the Rootsweb home page. Keep that in mind and look your message over carefully before clicking on "Send". If you wouldn't want your mom, spouse, best friend, or clergyperson reading what you wrote, you probably should send the message privately. 2. Do unto others as you wish they'd do unto you. Rudeness will result in temporary or permanent removal from the list. 3. Post only information related to the list topic. Please do not post virus warnings, jokes, "me too" or "thank you" posts here. Those are best sent privately. Also, do not post holiday greetings, recipes, political information, religious information, or anything else not directly related to genealogy research in this locality. 4. When replying, cut and paste ONLY the section of someone's post that makes clear what you are referencing. Please remove all headers and extra material. 5. Please do not post anything that could be considered advertising. If you have a list-related book or other material to sell, please just describe it and do not mention money. Request that those interested contact you for more information. 6. Posting URLs for your favorite sites is OK >IF< the site has direct connection to the topic of this list. General genealogy sites, updates to general sites, etc. do not belong here. 7. Please respect copyright laws. Post ONLY your own material or data from the public domain. CDs from genealogy companies, newsletters, ezines, newspaper articles, websites, and genealogy pages online, etc. are subject to copyright laws. What you MAY use from them is the actual vital statistics data. 8. This list may receive messages through a gateway to a message board on the same topic. To get your message to the greatest number of people, check to see if the message board has a banner at the top saying that messages posted there will go to the list of the same name. If it DOES, you will get the best response by posting to the board since it automatically will go to the list (IF everything is working well on the tech side of things). If it DOES NOT, you might want to post to both the board and the list. 9. This is a Rootsweb mailing list. Please direct all comments and questions related to Ancestry.com, their products and services, to Ancestry.com.
