His father was a Connecticut Planter to Nova Scotia in 1761, whose g-grandfather came to Massachusetts 1637 on the ‘Sparrow Hawk’, which sank on arrival. (Perhaps that encouraged their future line of work). Nehemiah's son John Adolphus Beckwith was for a time manager of the NB&NS Land Company. Interestingly enough, the Logan family of Stanley is descended from a Beckwith Planter to Nova Scotia of the same family. The mother of George Allen Pelton (1802 Billtown,Cornwallis NS-1882 Stanley) (wife Martha Britt (1804 NS-1874 Cornwallis NS) was Phoebe Beckwith (1765 Ayelsford, NS-1834 Granville NS) wife of Roswell Pelton (1763 Groton CT-1834 Granville).
