I am still looking for my John Porter, Loyalist b abt 1760 in? served with the Queens American Rangers, Stephenson's Co. Commanded by J. Graves Simcoe Lt Col Commandant frotm the 25th Dec 1779 to 23 Feb 1780. So we have NY, NJ, RI and Ct states to choose where our Porters came from. They were also known as the Provincial Corps. The Reg disbanded on Oct 13, 1783 at Saint John, NB/NS . It was soon after John landed there that he and Mary were supposedly rowing up towards Woodstock when John drown??? But he did die before his son John was born in the spring of 1784. I have that listing of his birth on his tombstone. He married Rhoda Dow and they had a son John Dow Porter. Some people get them mixed up. I am a direct descendant of John Porter, Loyalist right up to my mother, Edna B. Porter b 1905 in Riceville, NB. The Old Dow cemetary was moved to Lower Meductic to make room for the highway. My mother had to sign papers okeying the move of her family members.
