    3. Hi all, I trying to find out anything on this family of Edward CHARTERS of Dumfries, York County. He was born in Dumfrieshire,Scotland abt 1802.He married Susanna BRODIE born Apr 03 1810,on June 04 1830 in Lesmahagow.Lanark Scotland. They left Scotland sometime after 1832 Edward died at age 81 Feb 04 1882 and Susanna died Oct 10 1891 at age 81.They are both resting at Barony Cemetery in York County. I have found them on the 1861 Dumfries Parish of York County Census. Edward CHARTERS male head,59,Scotland,Farmer,Presbyterian. Susanna CHARTERS Female,Wife,51,Scotland,Presbyterian. John M.Rogerson Male,Son of Sister,24,Scotland,Carver of Wood,Presbyterian. Susannna Charters HUTCHINSON,female,wife's sister's daughter,19,native,Presbyterian. Silas JONES Male,Servant,20,native,General Labourer,Baptist. His Brother was living next door. Robert CHARTERS male,Head,50,Scotland,farmer,Presbyterian(he died June 09 1869 and is buried at Lake George United.) Eliza CHARTERS female,wife,48,England,Presbyterian.(she died at age 74 march 4,1884 is buried at Lake George United.) Mary Jane CHARTERS female,20,daughter,England,Presbyterian. (she went on to marry an Irish man John Scott born abt 1840.He died abt 1917 and Mary was born Aug 30 1840 in Manchester,England,she died at 52 in 1892 in York County.) William ROGERSON,male,sister's son,17,Scotland,Presbyterian,General Labourer. Edward CHARTERS in the 1881 Dumfries census was noted as a Carver.He worked on the famous ship the Marco Polo which was built in 1851 in St.John.In the New Brunswick Museum in St.John there is a Stern Carving from this ship that was attributed to Edward CHARTERS.He all so helped build the historic Wilmot United church that was constructed in 1852 is in Downtown Fredericton.The construction crew who erected the building was comprised of local ship's carpenters whose work on the wooden vaulting echoes that on the bows of wooden ships.The spire ascended 199 feet and was further extended by a 7 foot upward-pointings hand carved in wood by Edward CHARTERS.It was this symbol that caused the soldiers of a British Regiment stationed in the city to nickname the church"Thumbs Up" His nephew John ROGERSON who was living with him in 1861, was all so a great carver and to this day his work can still be seen in the city of St.John.One of his works was the Young Memorial in King's Square,St.John.John ROGERSON was born abt 1837 in Scotland and died Feb 26,1925 in St.John. All so Living with Edward CHARTERS in 1861 was his niece Susanna Charters HUTCHINSON born abt 1843.Her mother was Elizabeth HUTCHINSON nee BRODIE,the sister of Susanna CHARTERS. Abt.May of 1863 Susanna C.HUTCHINSON went on to marry a Presbyterian Minister and Doctor,the Rev.James SALMON who was born abt 1830 in England of scottish parents.They left York County and ended up in Chipman's Corner,Queens County in 1864.Their first born was Edward Charters SALMON born Jan. 01, 1864.In the 1881 census it shows that another son William SALMON was living with Edward and Susanna CHARTERS in Dumfries.His mother Susanna C.SALMON was a widow by this time.In all they had 7 children.Rev.James SALMON died June 08 1875 and Susanna or Susan C. SALMON died Jan 01 1922 in Restigouche Country.She worked as a Post Mistress from Jan 07 1880 to Jan 09 1892 in Chipman Corner's.Queens County.Both James and Susan SALMON are buried in the Redbank Cemetery,Queens County Cemetery on McLeod Street,Chipman. Their first born Edward Charters SALMON was my great grandfather.He moved to Montreal and married Margaret Jane LANE born July 1865 in Quebec City.The SALMON family left Montreal sometime after 1894 and ended up in Toronto.Edward C.SALMON was a Silver Smith and hotel owner.He died Oct 24 1924.. Susanna Charters HUTCHINSON's parents were William and Elizabeth HUTCHINSON nee BRODIE of Lesmahagow,Lanark,Scotland.They left Scotland some time after 1828.Susanna was the only child that I know of.She was born in 1843 but by 1861 her parents may have been dead for she was living with her aunt and uncle Edward and Susanna CHARTERS?I have no other information of them.In the 1891 Chipman,Queens County Census shows Susanna C.SALMON as a widow and living with her daughter and son-in-law Susann C.D. MCLEAN age 25 and John Murray MCLEAN a machinist age 52.They married Dec 26 1888 in Queens County. The BRODIE sisters Elizabeth HUTCHINSON and her sister Susanna CHARTERS had a brother living in Dumfires,York County.He was John Naismith BRODIE who married Jean SCOTT on May 16 1846 in Lesmahagow,Lanark,Scotland.In the Prince William,York County Census in 1881 he was a farmer with 3 children.They are both resting in the Pokiok Cemetery in Dumfires,York County.Jean died at age 66 in 1884 and John died at age 78 in 1895.
