    1. Re: [CAN-NB-YORK] Blake in York County
    2. I wish there was some way that I could help you but I do not have that information. You can try to write to the Catholic Church and see if they have anything to help you. You could try the 1851 census for the area you need to see if any of these people show up in the census. If they were far back enough I could have checked the New Brunswick loyalist list - but that was before 1800. Good luck Jean R

    2. William Romanski
    3. Hi, I'm trying to locate any related Roman Catholic Blake families in New Brunswick. . The best I can figure Henry (William?) Blake married Margaret Scanlon in New Brunswick sometime between 1851 and 1855. I couldn't find any record of their marriage in York County. Their first child William Henry Blake was baptised by J C McDevitt at St. Dunstan's Roman Catholic in Fredericton April 7, 1858 witnessed by Catherine Daly. The record claimed he was born in January of 1855. Their second child Mary Ann was born about 1859 in, as her death certificate claims, Fredericton. She was baptized at St Dunstan's in Fredericton in 1857 at the age of 4 weeks. Witnesses were Thomas Burns and Mary Cummings. In 1861 William and Mary Ann were enumerated in the census with their grandfather David Scanlon in York County, and 1871 with their Aunt Catherine Scanlon Chessie. I believe their mother to be counted in 1861 as a servant in Fredericton, living with the Gregory family. I cannot find a marriage record for Henry Blake and Margaret Scanlon. I cannot find any vital information about either. I would like to know where they were married, when. Where and when they died and where they are buried. I would like to know if Henry was related to any other Blakes in New Brunswick. Was Henry Irish and came to NB with David Scanlon and family? Where was Henry for the 1851 census? Where were the Scanlons for that matter (the whole family is missing from that census)? Let me know if you've got any Roman Catholic Blakes that may have arrived in the Province about 1841. 3. Searching for information on the ancestors of my ggrandfather William Henry STEEN. He was born abt. April 1847 in Canada (Eng)according to the 1900 US census. Parents were William STEEN and Ellen HARVEY according to his death record. William Henry STEEN immigrated to Maine in 1878. He married Mary Evelyn BOWDEN on Oct. 25, 1882 in Levant, Maine. They had the following children: Everett Walter, William Henry Jr., Harold Andrew, Ethel Mae, and twins Edna Maude and Edgar Marshall. William Henry STEEN died Oct. 23, 1901 in Levant, Maine. My uncles always believed that he was born in Scotland and immigrated to Maine through Canada, but according to the marriage record of his daughter Edna he was born in Fredericton, NB. But according to Edgars 2 marriage record he was listed as being born in Stanley, NB on one, and Halifax, NS on the other one. 3. I just received news that my second cousin Dr. Robert Mc Nutt, died July 7, 2002. I met he and his wife in Fredericton in 1997, while my sister and I were there doing genealogical research on the McNutt line in Tay Creek, York, County. Is there someone who has access to the recent Fredericton Newspapers who would copy his obituary and mail it to me. I will be happy to cover copying and postage. His wife, Bobby is too distraught to answer my questions. If you can, answer me privately and I will give you my address. Thanks Marita Gladson

    1. Look-up of NB Vital Records 1840-1851 -TRETHEWEY/TRETHEWAY
    2. George W. Page
    3. I am seeking vital statistic (and any other available) info on members of the subject family that immigrated from Cornwall (via Devon?), Eng. to New Brunswick after the 1841 Cornwall census. The family consisted of William & Elizabeth (GILL) TRETHEWEY plus some of their children (Amelia, John, and Fanny). They had a daughter Elizabeth ("Libbie") who was b. in (NB?) Canada between 1845-1848. Their daughter Fanny d. in NB about 1849. By 1851 they were in Michigan. He was a carpenter by profession. While visiting Nova Scotia I searched the "Nova Scotia Vital Statistics from Newspapers" (Vol. 10, 11, & 12) for the years 1840-1851 with negative results. These volumes were published by the Genealogical Association of Nova Scotia in 1985-1987, so I am hoping that a similar publication exists for the Provence of New Brunswick. Thank you, George W. 1. Family of John A. King 1821-1898?
    2. Wisconsin Homecare Organization
    3. Hello, I'm looking for information on the family of John A. King, born in York County Jan 2 1821. I'm seeking information about John's parents. I've been told that John's father's name was also Isaac and that he died in an explosion near Toronto in the 1840s, but have no confirmation. The King's were a bit notorious in those days. I understand that Julie (and her son James) stood trial for the murder of her own daughter (his sister), but were found not guilty. James also stood trial for the murder of a rival for his sweetheart's affection--also found not guilty. One of the newspaper articles supposedly referred to the Kings as "hard cases." I cannot pin down the ethnic origin of the Kings. I've been told, by various "soft" sources Irish, Scottish, English and, most recently, Dutch. John's mother, I've been told without solid evidence, was German. I've also been told that the King line came from New York, but I have no names or dates beyond John's. How maddening not to be able to answer the question "Where is my family from?" Other information that's available: John King died Dec. 14, 1898 near Wiarton Ontario. John is buried in Bayview cemetery in Wiarton (Bruce County) Ontario. John King married Julie on Sept. 7, 1840 at St. James Anglican Cathedral in Toronto Ontario. Their children are as follows: Solomon b. June 13, 1842, York County William b. June 19, 1844, York County Fanny b. Apr. 6, 1846, York County Hannah b. Apr. 27, 1848, York County John b. Mar. 2, 1850, York County Catherine b. Jan. 7, 1853, York County Margaret b. Feb. 27, 1855, York County Isaac b. Dec. 14, 1857, Perth County (my great grandfather) Edward b. Dec. 13, 1859, Perth County Mary Elizabeth b. Oct. 17, 1861, Perth County James b. Aug. 29, 1863, Perth County Suzannah b. July 27, 1865, Perth County Samson Michael b. Feb. 2, 1867, Perth County John, Julie and children moved from York County to Elma township, Perth County Ontario in 1855, and homesteaded there on lot 10, con. 18 which is where the other children, from Isaac down were born. In late 1879 John, Julie and children Edward, Mary, James, and Samson moved to Keppel township, Grey County Ontario near Wiarton. Isaac stayed on the farm in Perth County. Assessment Rolls for Elma township show Isaac as a tennent in 1880, one occupant and as a freeholder in 1881, two occupants. Isaac later moved to Michigan, where you can still find King Settlement Cemetery on King Settlement Road near Alpena. Thank you, in advance, for any information or direction you may be able to provide. --Russell King wishomecare@earthlink.net

    1. JOHN AND SARA CLARE
    2. Donna Walford
    3. Hello Everyone: This is my first posting to this list. Can anyone suggest where I can find records for William John or John CLARE b abt 1752 and died circa 1811 or 1814 in Fredericton or area. His spouse Sara CLARE b abt 1752 died in Fredericton in 1830 and the funeral was held at her daughter Susannah BOYER's home on Exmouth Street. Does anyone know where this street is or if it still exists and where the nearest Church of England was from there. Perhaps the church has records. The funeral homes's records don't go back that far and the NB archives cannot help. Would greatly appreciate any information on the above. Thank you. Donna in Bath, Ontario

    1. Look Up. Manner Sutton Parish? Bridget Lee-Henry A. Sears 1883
    2. Searching for information on Bridget Lee, born about 1862: St. Croix NB . She married Henry A. Sears, April 11, 1883 , Manner Sutton Parish York Co. New Brunswick, Canada. Does anyone know of any towns in this parish? Would anyone be willing to do a 1891 census lookup, please? I couldn't find anything on map quest or Expedia for Manner-Sutton. I am hoping the couple had a family. . Henry was said to be from Carleton Co, NB. I imagine he worked at Shaw Tannery in Vanceboro ME, just across the railroad bridge from St. Croix. St. Croix was Dumfiies Parish, the church St. Clements in McAdam. There are several Sears in the cemetery at St. Croix, no Lee's. (I have checked Cleadie Barnetts website) Bridgets parents were in the 1891 census for St. Croix. I don't know if Henry and Bridget were. I wasn't looking for a Sears. Her brother John's obit read he had two sisters living in the East. I have been assuming Maine. or NB. Bridget's parents: Jeremiah M. (b. 1830)? And Bridget F. O'Malley (1828)? Lee I believe came from WESTPORT IRE. about 1854. They owned property Silas Cove, Chiputnetikook Lake Dumfiies parish New Brunswick from 1877-1903. Jeremiah ran the boarding house/liquor from 1861-1877? in St. Croix. Mother Bridget's, brother Thomas O (1820-1897 and wife Margaret G (1830-1908 are buried in St. Croix NB. with daughters Annie 17, and Jennie 23 and son John. sons: Martin, Mark and Tomey went to Wisconsin with 1st cousin John C. Lee to start another Tannery and Lumber Mill after the Shaw Tannery burned about 1890 in Vanceboro, Maine.(the forest were depleted of Hemlock trees and a synthetic method for making tannic acid had been found)I Bridget and Jeremiah must have been in US by 1854 son 1. John C. Lee born April 12, 1854 New York (cannot from proof) died in Medford Wisconsin 1927. married Sarah Paul b. 1861, three children. John was divorce in 1895. I have tracked this family . The Lee's went to Halifax within the year. Why? family support in Halifax? Job? a dau. born in Halifax.... 2. Mary A. Lee b. Aug 4, 1855 Halifax, Nova Scotia may have married George F. Michaud/Mishou? of Vanceboro. Nov 17. 1884? This family is in the Old Town/Bangor area today. I have contacted them . Mary's obit does not meation a brother or a sister. No Sears attended the funeral. Seeking: 3. BRIDGET LEE b. about 1862? in St. Croix NB. I cannot find her and she may lead me to her parents. I walked the cemeteries in St.Croix and Vanceboro. I have written several parishes and the churches but no one seems to have a list. I am hoping to find descendents of Bridget and Henry Sears that may lead me to the g. grandparents. Help and suggestions are much appreciated. Thank you. Sincerely Susan Lee sjsidaho@aol.com

Lawrence to Ensign dated Nov. 20, 1831; to Captain dated June 8, 1838; and to Major on Oct. 13, 1856 in the 4th Battalion of North York in Toronto, Canada. Since these were in my father-in-law's mother's possession and his maternal grandmother's maiden name is LAWRENCE I can only assume that John & Charles were her ancestors. 3. Hi, Maybe I can be of help. You may want to check "New Brunswick Vital Statistics From Newspapers" a book series. You could also check the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick(PANB) web site, they are in Fredericton. They have some searchable databases. While there is no 1840 census, you may want to check the 1851 census for your Sullivans and Browns. The 1851 census is in book form also. There are some Sullivans in Fredericton and there are Irish Browns also. Also your Boston libraries may be able to interlibrary loan books. Mike Brown (researching the possibly Irish Arthur Blaney Brooker) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 1. Help/New to Canadian Research: Brown/Sullivan in Fredericton mid-1800s
    2. Ilse Martin O'Brien
    3. Hello! I am new to Canadian research and would appreciate any help you could give me. I just recently broke through a brick wall in one branch of my tree and discovered that my great-great-grandmother was born in Fredericton, N.B. She was Ellen (Sullivan) Brown, who died at about age 90 in 1916 in Boston. Ellen would have been in Boston from about 1845, after the death of her husband Thomas Brown and the birth of her daughter Elizabeth Jane Brown. She may have been back to Ireland to get married, etc, but her death certificate lists place of birth as Fredericton, N.B. and her parents names as THOMAS and ANN SULLIVAN. How can I go about finding out more? Are there census records in the 1840s that might have the Sullivan family listed? Or can I search for her birth record only knowing an approximate year range? (1820-1830) Thanks for any help you can provide. -- ilse martin o'brien boston, ma
