SKOWHEGAN, Maine-- Lewis I. Lynds Sr., 90, of Norridgewock and Cedar Ridge Nursing Center, Skowhegan, where he had been a resident for the past two years, passed away Aug. 9, 2005. He was born Dec. 26, 1914, in Starks, 11th child and fifth son of William I. and Nellie (Barber) Lynds of Maple Ridge, New Brunswick and Starks. Mr. Lynds was a resident of Norridgewock for 57 years, previously residing in Embden and Medfield, Massachusetts. Lewis operated a small dairy farm where he sold butter and milk for several years and also raised black Angus beef cattle. He retired from Norwalk Shoe in Norridgewock in 1976 and for several years he raised and sold vegetables and flowers from his home on River Road. Working the land, cutting wood, tending his animals and talking with the people who stopped to buy his produce brought him great pleasure. He loved every new season and looked forward to the work each new season would bring. Lewis was married to Iva E. Peterson, Aug. 20, 1938. They were married for 52 years before her death in 1990. Mr. Lynds was predeceased by five brothers, Howard, Walter, Henry, Ralph and Mervin Lynds; six sisters, Nellie Lynds, Julia Heald, Ruby Hilton, Ada Heald, Olive Oliver and Janet "Jean" Tracy. Lewis is survived by three sons, Lewis I. Lynds Jr. and wife, Wanda, of Austin, Texas, Irwin I. Lynds and wife, Barbara, of Georgetown, Texas, and Arvil T. Lynds and wife, Ardell, of Readfield; daughter Iva E. Godin and husband, Fred, of Cornville; 12 grandchildren, Larry Godin of Madison, Jeffrey Godin of Waterville, Robert Lynds of Barre, Massachusetts, Barbara Hooker of Elmira, New York; Roxanne Khachoyan of Hartford, Connecticut, Ronald T. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Remains will be interred in Athearn Cemetery, Anson. Please DO NOT email me questions. I'm not related, have no personal interest in this family and can not answer any questions. I found the obit in a Maine newspaper. I look up obituaries to pay back genealogical favors. If you have the time, ability and inclination to do likewise, look at the query board for your county.
