LEWIS WELLS ALLEN (ALLAN) (s/o Nelson and Ruth Clara (Trenholm) Allen) b. Botsford Parish, Westmorland Co., NB 14MAR1839, m. 1st HANNAH FIELD (b. ca. 1841), d/o Samuel and Elizabeth (Grant) Fields; m. 2nd at her father's home, Botsford Parish, Westmorland Co., NB by the Deacon J. Polley (her father) 1AUG1869 ROSALINE (ROSELINE) POLLEY (b. ca. 1848), d/o Joshua and Harriet Polly. In Botsford Parish, Westmorland Co., NB in the 1851 census with his parents as: Allan Nelson M Head 46 American farmer birth Allan Ruth F Wife 35 American birth Allan William M Son 19 American farmer birth Allan Elizabeth F Daughter 16 American birth Allan Lucutia F Daughter 14 American birth Allan Lewis M Son 12 American birth Allan Mary F Daughter 9 American birth Allan Snowball M Son 5 American birth In Botsford Parish, Westmorland Co., NB in the 1881 census. He was b. NB, Scottish, a farmer and Methodist. A Hannah Allen, wife of Lewis Allen. Sr. was b. ca. 1824, and d. Kelly's Cove, NS 31DEC1877 age 63 years. Rosaline is probably Rosaline Polly b. ca. 1848, d/o Joshua and Harriet Polly, in Botsford Parish, Westmorland Co., NB in 1851. When married, by her father, she is given as the d/o Deacon J. Polley. Her husband is given as 'Luiel' Allen. In the same census, would appear to be Hannah's family: Fields Samuel M Head 44 Irish Farmer Birth Fields Elizabeth F Wife 43 Scotch Birth Fields Jane F Daughter 23 Scotch Birth Fields John Thomas M Son 21 Scotch Birth Fields Anthony M Son 18 Scotch Birth Fields Mary F Daughter 16 Scotch Birth Fields Sarah F Daughter 14 Scotch Birth Fields Hannah F Daughter 10 Scotch Birth Fields David M Son 8 Scotch Birth Fields Job M Son 6 Scotch Birth Fields Samuel M Son 6/12 Scotch Birth Samuel Field (m. Elizabeth Grant) d. 11SEP1864 in Botsford Parish, Westmorland Co., NB, "Whilst driving his team, then side ladder got loose and catching the wheel one end of it was thrown upwards striking the man a severe blow on the head which resulted in his death." He is buried in the Stillman Road Cem., Westmorland Co., NB. In the same cemetery is bur. a d/o Samuel Fields, Hannah M. Fields b. ca. 1855, d. 6MAR1865 age 10 years. This creates a problem as this Hannah could not be the same in the 1851 census; and the one in the 1851 census would have had to have died before 1855. There is, of course, the possibility that the transcription of Hannah's headstone is in error. "A History and Story of Botsford, (A Parish of Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada", by William M. Burns, The Tribune Printing Company, Sackville, NB 1st published ca. 1933, 2nd printing, 1962, states that Hannah Field, d/o Samuel and Elizabeth (Grant) Field survived her father, and suggests she! survived into adulthood. children: 1. CLARA ALLEN b. ca. 1869 2. WILLIE ALLEN b. ca. 1871 3. LUCRETIA ALLEN b. ca. 1875 I suspect that insufficient study has been done on this family. Specifically, I doubt that probate records, marriage registers, church records, and the 1861, 1871 and 1891 census returns have been consulted. I also suspect that many vital statistics may be recorded in Nova Scotia, and have not been consulted. Thomas Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
