In Oct 2008 you helped me confirm Ann Carroll Ballard as a daughter of Michael and Phebe Carroll. The Ballards even named two of their children Michael and Phebe. Elizabeth Carroll's marriage to Edward Keating and apparent lack of information on their family was resolved when I found a website detailing the "Irish of Memramcook Valley". http://www.newirelandnb.ca/NB-Irish-Trail/ES-No-7-Irish-of-Memramcook-Valley.html Basically Edward Keating had changed his surname to Gayton. I was then able to find their family in the 1851 and 1881 Census. Elizabeth named her oldest daughter Martha Gayton. Martha Carroll's marriage to John Hoseman gave me problems until I noticed in the 1851 Census of Moncton the family of John Ausburn (23), wife Martha ((23), daughter Eliza (3 mo.) and a servant named William Carrol (11). Further research indicated that Martha married name was actually Osborne. They moved to Shediac where they ran an inn and later moved to Maine. One of their grand-daughters was named Carroll Brewster Osborne. I still have not statisfied myself that the Jeremiah Carroll (1828-1908) who married Jane Hannigan (1842-1925) was a son of Michael and Phebe. However, I do know that Michael's youngest son William (1836-1920)had a son Frederick Carroll (1865-1939)who married Susan Hannigan (1864-1933). Susan was a niece of Jane Hannigan. William Carroll and the Hannigans lived on the Irishtown Road near Sunny Brae. Jeremiah named his first son William Frederick Carroll (born 1870). If Jeremiah were a son of Michael he would have been a brother of the John Carroll whose obit I am searching for. Since Jeremiah outlived John his name may have been mentioned. The Mary Carroll you noted that married John Corbett in 1851 could also be a daughter. My preliminary guess is based on the 1881 Census of Charlottetown, PEI. An Irish born John Corbett (53),architect, is listed married to a Mary (49) with four children all born in New Brunswick. The youngest is Michael age 13. If you Google John Corbett - architect - PEI you will note that he was locally famous. Perhaps PEI Archives has some information on him.
