DOBSON (s/o George John and Lavinia (Polly) Dobson) b. Baie Verte, Westmorland Co., NB 26(or 24)JAN1815, d. Plainview, Pierce Co., Nebraska 23JUN1910, m. 1st MAR1836 AMELIA ALLEN (b. ca. 1819), later divorced; m. 2nd ACSEY E. (KNAPP?) SARGENT (b. Ohio ca. 1844.) Andrew's mother, Lavinia (b. NB ca. 1792) was likely of Loyalist parents as, in 1880, in Roscoe, Winnebago Co., Illinois, she gave both parents as b. Massachusetts. She lived with Ephraim and Ann Allen, both b. NB, and one might think that Ann (b. NB ca. 1819, parents b. NB) was her daughter; and that Ephraim (b. NB ca. 1818, father b. NB, mother b. NS) might be Amelia Allen's brother. Andrew appears as 'Anden' Dobson in the 1880 census of Arvonia, Osage Co., Kansas; which gives rise to questions about the spelling of Acsey's name. Andrew was b. NB ca. 1816, parents b. NB; Acsey was b. Ohio ca. 1844, father b. Pennsylvania, mother b. NY. Children were: John W. (b. Illinois ca. 1866) and Elmer V. (b. Kanasa ca. 1875) Dobson. Another Dobson, nearby in 1880, in Arvonia, Osage Co., Kansas, was John P. Dobson (b. NB ca. 1810, parents b. NB), with a wife and son; very likely Andrew's brother. Andrew's father, George, is given as b. NB 8FEB1786, d. Winnebago Co., Illinois OCT1871, and to be the s/o George and Ann Christian (Somers) Dobson. George, Sr. (1751-1809) is said to have been b. Ingleby, Arncliffe, Yorkshire, England, the s/o George and Mary (Baker) Dobson. The IGI has numerous entries for members of this family at: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp George, John and Richard Dobson petitioned for land in Westmorland Co., NB as early as 1801, suggesting they may have arrived about that time. The earliest grant, in Botsford Parish, Westmorland Co., NB 21NOV1810, not only included David, John and Richard Dobson, but Benjamin Allen, Jr. and George and Matthew Allen. So the families were likely close neighbours. Another grant, the same day in the same place, has Benjamin Allen (presumably Sr.), Ephraim Allen, Jonas Allen, John Dobson and George Dobson. While many members of the Dobson family seem to have left for the US, an example of prevailing relationships between the Dobson's and Allen's is the marriage of George Dobson at the Parsonage, Baie Verte, by the Rev, A. S. Tuttle 30JAN1868 to Margaret D. Allen, 3rd d/o Richard Allen, all of Bayfield. I suspect that a thorough search of the Dobson's would include one of the Allen's. Families in Botsford Parish in the 1851 census at: http://automatedgenealogy.com/censusnb51/Subdistrict.jsp?id=83 suggest both were very large families by that time.
