The result, below, gives a start on the family of George and Elizabeth (Addison) Rogers, with some hints as to their origins. I warn , this never ends. Especially as they are connected to the Steeves' and Lutes', enormous families related to half the people in NB, and about one-third of the Canadian population. GEORGE ROGERS (s/o William and Elizabeth (Taylor) Rogers) b. Lutes Mountain, Westmorland Co., NB 10OCT1847, d. Berry Mills, Westmorland Co., NB 3JUN1935, bur. Burchill Cem., Berry Mills, Westmorland Co., NB, m. ELIZABETH ADDISON (b. 2DEC1848 (3DEC1848 in 1901), d. 20MAR1929 (1920?) age 81 years, bur. Burchill Cem., Berry Mills, Westmorland Co., NB), d/o Robert and Margaret (Trites) Madison. Elizabeth's family was in Moncton Parish, Westmorland Co., NB in the 1851 census at: http://automatedgenealogy.com/censusnb51/ as: Maddison Robert M Head 37 English Farmer Nov. 1831 Maddison Margaret F Wife 35 Dutch Birth Maddison Richard M Son 15 Birth Maddison Ann F Daughter 14 Birth Maddison Sarah Jane F Daughter 12 Birth Maddison Mary M. F Daughter 10 Birth (m. William Patriquin) Maddison Jacob T. M Son 5 Birth Maddison Elizabeth F Daughter 3 Birth This indicates that Robert Maddison arrived in NOV1831. That Margaret was 'Dutch' rather suggests the Steeves family or the Lutz/Lutes family. Also possible the Horseman (Horsman?) family. More likely the Trites family as, in 1836, Robert Maddison, George Trites and Abraham Trites place bonds on grants of 166 acres simultaneously of $33.20 each. This seems to be the case as at: http://www.nbgs.ca/firstfamilies/FAMILY-MA-MY-2006.pdf MADDISON: Robert Maddison born 1807 in England, d. 1868: came to NB Nov 1831: settled at Lutz Mountain in Moncton Parish, Westmorland County: m. Margaret Trites born 1816 at Lutz Mountain, d. 1891: Children mentioned: 1) Richard Maddison born 1836: 2) Ann Maddison b. 1837: 3) Sarah Jane Maddison b. 1839: 4) Mary M. Maddison b. 1841: 5) Jacob T. Maddison b. 1845, d. 1934, m. Elizabeth Mary Steeves b. 1850, d. 1928, d/o Elkanah Steeves and Frances Mollins : family settled at Indian Mountain: they had issue: 6) Elizabeth Maddison b. 1848. Sources: MC80/1397 Daniel F. Johnson's New Brunswick lineages, pages 215-216: see also the Westmorland County census records. Elizabeth's obituary is transcribed at: http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.northam.canada.newbrunswick.westmorland/4542/mb.ashx The Moncton Transcript Thursday, 21 March 1929, page 7 Mrs. George Rogers ' Mrs. George Rogers , age 81 years, died last night at her home in Berrys Mills. She had been ill for only a short time. Mrs. Rogers, who had lived with her husband at Berrys Mills practically her entire married life, was widely known throughout the community and was loved and respected by her many friends and acquaintances. Besides her husband, who is a few years her senior, she is survived by 8 daughters and 2 sons, as well as a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The daughters are: Mrs. Palmer Rogers, Indian Mountain; Mrs. Augusta MacPherson, Berrys Mills; Mrs. George Wilson, Malden, Mass.; Mrs. George Cole, Quebec; Mrs. John Kelly, Stilesville; Mrs. Henry Trites, Berrys Mills; Mrs. Ezra Cole, Melfort, Saskatchewan; Mrs. Charlie Wilson, Coverdale; and the sons are Amos at home and William of Lutz Mountain. Two brothers, Jacob Maddison and Robert Maddison, both of Moncton, and two sisters, Mrs. Jane Rogers, of Moncton, and Mrs. Alberta Horsman, of Lutz Mountain, also survive. A few points of interest is that a daughter is said to have m. Palmer Rogers and a sister m. a Rogers as well. The sister is most likely Sarah Jane Maddison who m. David Rogers. David Rogers, in the 1851 census, below, does appear to be George's brother. David and Sarah Jane had a son, William Robert Rogers, b. 1882; making it a bit difficult determining whom William R. Roberts is in some records. To make it worse, one m. Ethel May Steeves (b. APR1883) and the other m. 16FEB1910 Annie L. Steeves. Ethel's husband was NOV1873 in Moncton Parish in the 1911 census, and they lived very close to Palmer and Ellen C. Rogers, so her husband would seem to be the one wanted here; even though Annie Louise Steeves is sometimes given as his wife. William Robert Rogers d. 3FEB1956; but this would seem to be the younger one. A Palmer Roger is said to have m. 10JUL1886 Ellen C. Rogers (b. 6NOV1867, d. 26MAY1854.) This is likely Palmer Rogers (b. ca. 1865) living with 'Horatia' N and 'Rachael' Briggs in Moncton Parish, Westmorland Co., NB in the 1881 census. With them appear to be his siblings: Roland (ca. 1859), 'Album' (male, ca. 1861) and 'Rosline' (ca. 1863) Rogers. 'Album' is likely Aulbin Leon Rogers b. Lutes Mountain, Westmorland Co., NB 28JUN1860, s/o Isaiah and Jane (Briggs) Rogers. They would seem to be Palmer's parents as well. George Rogers b. Lutes Mountain, Westmorland Co., NB 10OCT1847, d. Berry Mills, Westmorland Co., NB 3JUN1835 is given as a s/o William and Elizabeth (Taylor) Rogers. By entering George Rogers and Canada and New Brunswick in the proper boxes at: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp this family is traced back several generations to John and Elizabeth (Spencer) Rogers of Londonderry, Ireland. In 1881, in Moncton Parish, George 'Rodgers' was age 32, as was his wife, Elizabeth. he was Irish (as were the children), she was English, all were b. NB and Methodist Canada. George was a farmer. Children were: Ellen C. (13), Augusta L. (11), Rebecca (10), Alberta T. (8), William R. (6), Bliss H. (4) and Rossila (2.) Rodgers appears to be a possible, alternative spelling as in 1851, in Moncton Parish, was the family: Rodgers William M Head 40 Irish Farmer (prop) Birth Rodgers Elizabeth F Wife 36 1831 Rodgers David M Son 16 Birth Rodgers Rachael F Daughter 15 Birth Rodgers Isaiah M Son 12 Birth Rodgers William M Son 8 Birth Rodgers James M Son 6 Birth Rodgers Ellen F Daughter 4 Birth Rodgers George M Son 2 Birth Horseman David M Lodger 32 Dutch School Teacher Birth Taylor Margaret F Lodger 77 Irish 1831 Infirm From age with Margaret Taylor likely Elizabeth's mother. In Moncton Parish, Westmorland Co., NB in the 1901 census. See: http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/index.jsp and for 1911: http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/index.jsp Also check out: http://archives.gnb.ca/Archives/Default.aspx?culture=en-CA I know it's tricky, but important. A hint, by putting your cursor on some sensitive links, but not clicking, you get drop-downs (which are sort of drop-downs themselves.) children: 1. ELLEN CATHERINE ROGERS b. 6NOV1867, d. Westmorland Co., NB 27MAY1954 (26MAY1954), m. PALMER ROGERS (b. 3JUL1864 (ca. 1865 in 1881), d. Westmorland Co., NB 29OCT1937), s/o Isaiah and Jane (Briggs) Rogers 2. AUGUSTA LOUISA ROGERS b. Indian Mountain, Westmorland Co., NB 23APR1869, m. DANIEL MacPHERSON (b. 25DEC1863, d. Westmorland Co., NB 28DEC1928) 3. REBECCA E. ROGERS b. MAR1871, d. Massachusetts 1962 4. ALBERTA JANE (JANE ALBERTA) ROGERS b. 3DEC1872 5. WILLIAM R. ROGERS b. 2NOV1874 (NOV1873 in 1911), m. ETHEL MAY STEEVES (b. APR1883) 6. BLISS HERBERT ROGERS b. 6AUG1876 7. ROSILLAH ROGERS b. Berry Mills, Westmorland Co., NB 8OCT1878, m. GEORGE ABNER OLIVE COLE 8. ALICE MELISSA ROGERS, b. Berry Mills, Westmorland Co., NB 9JAN1882 (9JAN1881 in 1901), m. HENRY O. TRITES 9. AMOS ROLAND ROGERS b. Berry Mills, Westmorland Co., NB 5JUL1884. Amos appears to have had an older namesake (Amos Rogers b. 18DEC1857) in the family as well. An Amos Rogers m. Salisbury, Westmorland Co., NB 18FEB1920 Rachel C. Spaulding. 'Amasa' B. Rogers m. Westmorland Co., NB 1NOV1911 Martha M. Hopper; and this seems to be Amos B. Rogers who m. Moncton, Westmorland Co., NB 19DEC1923 Ethel Lena Lutes. This suggests that Amos was married at least twice. Ethel Lena Lutes has been given as Amos' wife, but again, she is likely the wife of 'Amosa' Bliss Rogers who d. 8FEB1958. Amos Roland Rogers is likely the Amos Rogers who d. Westmorland Co., NB 16MAR1943, and possibly the same who m. Rachel C. Spaulding. Amasa (or Amos) Bliss Rogers b. 15MAR1884 was the s/o the elder Amos (b. 1857.) J. VIOLET MAY ROGERS b. Berry Mills (Lutz Mountain), Westmorland Co., NB 1FEB1887, m. 10AUG1910 Westmorland Co., NB EZRA ALBERT PECK COLE. Lutz (Lutes) Mountain is, I believe, in the area (or actually is) Magnetic Hill. Violet, when born, weighed 12 pounds. K. MABEL MINNIE ROGERS b. Berry Mills, Westmorland Co., NB 7FEB1890, m. Westmorland Co., NB 20NOV1907 CHARLES (CHARLIE) EDWARD WILSON L. NINA L. ROGERS b. 29MAY1894, d. Westmorland Co., NB 20NOV1915 age 21 years Thomas Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
