Her husband is given as 'Luiel' Allen. He is buried in the Stillman Road Cem., Westmorland Co., NB. In the same cemetery is bur. a d/o Samuel Fields, Hannah M. Fields b. ca. 1855, d. 6MAR1865 age 10 years. This creates a problem as this Hannah could not be the same in the 1851 census; and the one in the 1851 census would have had to have died before 1855. There is, of course, the possibility that the transcription of Hannah's headstone is in error. "A History and Story of Botsford, (A Parish of Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada", by William M. Burns, The Tribune Printing Company, Sackville, NB 1st published ca. 1933, 2nd printing, 1962, states that Hannah Field, d/o Samuel and Elizabeth (Grant) Field survived her father, and suggests she! survived into adulthood. children: 1. CLARA ALLEN b. ca. 1869 2. WILLIE ALLEN b. ca. 1871 3. LUCRETIA ALLEN b. ca. 1875 I suspect that insufficient study has been done on this family. Specifically, I doubt that probate records, marriage registers, church records, and the 1861, 1871 and 1891 census returns have been consulted. Hicks [b. Oct 1880] family, with wife Ethel M., and children Sterling P., Ross I. [born Dec 1907] and Hazel M. They are in Salisbury parish in Westmorland county. There is a Christopher W. Hicks, age 70 [born Dec 1840] in Salisbury parish, with wife Eliza W. [born June 1842]. In the 1901 census of Salisbury parish [transcription online at same automated genealogy website], there is a Christopher Hicks, b. 5 Dec 1840 with wife Rachel, born 20 Oct 1840. A "Charlie Hicks" born 10 May 1881 appears in Havelock parish, Kings Co, as brother to the head of household Howard Hicks, b. 23 Oct 1869 and Howard's wife Rose [b. 17 Apr 1869]. In the 1891 census transcription of Westmorland county done by Ken Kanner, the Christopher & Rachel Hicks family appears again in Salisbury parish, with Christopher age 57, wife Rachel age 50, and sons Howard, age 21 and Charles age 10. In the 1881 census online at familysearch.org, Christopher & Rachel Hicks are in Salisbury parish, both age 40, with sons: Silas, age 19, Arnold, age 14, Howard, age 12 and Emmerson, age <1, born Oct [1880], age 6/12. In the 1871 census of Westmorland county transcribed & published by Ken Kanner, Christopher & Rachel Hicks are again in Salisbury parish, both age 30, with children: Silas E., age 9, Hartly, age 3, Howard B. age 2 and Maria age 2/12 Feb. In the Late Registration of Births records [online at NB provincial archives], there are two children recorded for parents Charles Noble Hicks & Ethel Melvina Frazee / Frazer. They are: - Sterling Everett Hicks, b. 13 Dec 1902 in Havelock, Kings Co. - Ross Isaac Hicks, b. 23 Feb 1907 in Havelock, Kings. Co. In the same set of records, there is also Hazel Maud Hicks, born 15 Aug 1909 in Salisbury, Westmorland county. Her parents were Charles Hicks & Ethel Frazee. Charles Emerson Hicks married Ethel M. Frazee on 11 March 1902 in Kings County. If you search for "Howard Hicks" on the vital statistics part of the PANB website, you will find that there is a Howard Banford Hicks, born to Christopher Hicks & Rachael Steeves. Howard Hicks also has numerous children in the late registration of birth records, sometimes born in Kings County, sometimes born in Westmorland county. >From all of the above, it seems as though this Hicks family moved back and forth between Salisbury parish in Westmorland county and Havelock in Kings county. I suspect that "Charles Noble Hicks" and "Charles Emerson Hicks" are the same person, but that's only a guess. Good luck! She married John Thompson (1760-1803) from Ireland. They had 2 sons, the well-known Tolar Thompson (1779 - 1846) and Joseph "Long John" Thompson (1780-1837). Joseph married Catherine Read in Sackville 1813, their first child was Jacob Thompson (1818-1889) who married Ruth Lund in Sackvile in 1840. Ruth's identity is mysterious: there is no record of her birth within the only Lund family in the Sackville area at the time, that of George Lund and Jane (Ibbitson). Also mysterious has been the identity of Daniel Lund b 1845 and Henry A. Lund b 1846. Daniel was a well-known sailor and farmer in Sackville, Henry became a sea captain out of Calais, Maine. They were thought to be illegitimate children of one of George Lund's daughters BUT I recently found them listed in George's family in 1851 as Daniel and Henry TOWSE, orphans. The Towses were neighbours of the Lunds in Cookville: Mary Ann Towse married my g'g'grandfather Daniel Lund. It was recorded that 3 Towse brothers came to the Sackville area abt 1817, 1 being John Towse and another named William (no record of the 3rd). Several Towses are recorded in the Sackville area not of John's family, including 3 of the same generation as Daniel and Henry: Stephen, Nelson and William. So, my speculation now is that Ruth was! also of this family, was orphaned, adopted probably informally by George and Jane Lund but missed in the 1851 census - she was older, as she married Jacob Thompson in 1840, possibly the widow of Daniel and Henry's deceased father who took on the Lund name before marrying Jacob. She was in the 1911 census of New Brunswick - listed as a Servant in Shediac in the home of Mr. Louis Weldon. She was born in PEI, daughter of John Heckbert and Nancy Ann Reid Heckbert. She was married to Edward Rayner in PEI, Levi Clark in Moncton and then James Nelson Tarris/Terris in Moncton. James died in 1907 and left his estate to his sister and her husband so we think they were estranged at the time of his death. If anyone has any leads as to where one could look for date and place of death, it would be appreciated. She was listed as Methodist if that is of any help. Thanks in advance for any help. Here's what I have so far [any corrections gratefully accepted]. Andrew Hiltz, b. 1839, 1841 or 1843, depending whether you rely on the 1861, 1871 or 1881 census records. I found Andrew & Deborah Hiltey in 1881 LDS census, which appears to be the family. Andrew dies before about May 1891, because Deborah is a widow at the time the 1891 census is taken. He married Barbara Ann Horsman [b. abt 1849 in 1861 census; b. abt 1844 in 1871 census -- note that if you believe the 1861 census, she was about 15 when 1st son born]. Andrew was servant in household of Mathias & Elizabeth Horsman in 1861 census, age 22. Their children: 1. William Hiltz; married Prudence Lavinia Hicks [d/o Hazen Botsford Hicks & Zena Ann Lutz]. Again, depending what census you believe in, William born in the 1864 - 1866 range. 2. Rashael Hiltz [b. abt 1866; age 5 in 1871] - no further records 3. Jerusha Hiltz [b. abt 1866; age 5 in 1871] - no further records 4. Mary E. Hiltz [b. abt 1869 -- 1871 census; OR b. abt 1867 -- 1881 census] 5. Rachel J. [b. abt 1869 in the 1881 census; not in the 1871 census at all]. She may be the Rachel Jane Hiltz who is having children with James N. Lutes from 1893 - 1906 in the Late Registration of Birth records. 6. Julia A. Hiltz [b. abt 1871] After Barbara (Horsman) Hiltz's death in 1874, Andrew Hiltz married Deborah Lutes / Lutz on 23 Jan 1875. Researchers say they had no issue. Is there a chance they adopted any children? This is why I ask. In the 1881 census, there is another child shown: Genevieve, age 3 [b. abt 1878]. In 1891, her name is given as "Generera"; in 1901 she is "Genevera", b. 3 June 1879, sister of William Hiltz, who is head of household. There is also a Frederick L. who shows up in the 1891 and 1901 records. According to 1901, he was born 26 March 1882, brother of William Hiltz, head of household. There is a burial record in Elmwood Cemetery in Moncton for Frederick Lorne Hiltz, b. 27 Mar 1881 in Berry Mills; d. 21 Dec 1958. As for daughters of Deborah Lutz / Lutes, I have: - Zena Ann Lutz, who married Hazen Botsford Hicks in April 1871 [she is age 9 in 1861 census, living with grandparents Charles & Margaret Lutes] - Jane Lutz, first appears in the 1891 census, with the widowed Deborah Hitlz [spelling in the record] as head of household. She is 27 years old [b. abt 1864]. For William Hiltz & Prudence Hicks, I have 8 children. 1. Lottie, b. 12 Jun 1892; married John Beers 2. Della M., b. 20 April 1894; married Lee Killam 3. Georgie A., b. 5 Dec 1895; married Gorham W. Power [buried in Elmwood Cemetery; husband's name there is Gordon] 4. Hazen B., b. 3 Feb 1900; married Florence Atkins 5. William Pearson, b. Jun 1902; married Annie Ogden 6. Josfina A., b. April 1906 7. Lena A. [Zena Alta], b. April 1910; married Gurney Bertram Wilbur; buried in Elmwood Cemetery 8. Murray Ivan, b. 7 April 1912; married Bertha Sherwood. Deborah (Lutz) Hiltz is still alive at the time the 1911 census was recorded -- 80 years old, living in household of William Hiltz.
