They moved to to the Albert county area around Hopewell and Westmoreland, New Brunswick sometime before 1800. I'm a descendant of their daughter, Jemima who married John Lewis on 4 Jan 1801 in Granville. Any information would be great especially where in the States they came from.

I came across a site that listed him as shown below. There is no source cited. I have no idea whether it is accurate, but would like to think it is. Ralph Siddall 1737-1824 and Bridget (Tate), original settlers from Yorkshire, had a daughter Sarah born abt 1773. Also found in the records is a Mary Cook who married James Maxwell in Westmorland County in 1824. Both were listed as 52 an dliving in Sackville in the 1851 census. They are listed as Hayse in the 1851 Census of Botsford Parish with a family of seven, the oldest being 21. Perhaps they were married in 1831 ? If actually married in 1851 she would have been his second wife - perhaps a widow. The reason I ask is because a Phiana (Anna) Akerly married James Ballard on 9 Mar 1831, at Wallace, NS. For the 1900 census info, check out the www.familysearch.org website. Click on "see new prototype for searching millions of records". That takes you to a bunch of new databases that are in pilot project mode, and you'll be able to search & see the pages of the 1900 US census, as well as many other things. For the NS link, have you run across the "novascotiagenealogy.com" website yet? It has really great info there. Cheers & best of luck in your research. Dawn P.S. If you do end up with Botsford parish links, let me know -- I have a bunch of info in my databases on folks in Botsford parish, particularly those of Irish extraction. The 1871 Census data was very helpful as was the information you provided from the 1900 Census of Maine. Ann's father Michael Carroll was indeed born in Ireland about 1791 and her mother Phebe in NB about 1797 - based on 1851 NB Census. Michael settled in the Memramcook area of NB and I could not establish any NB links with the Carrolls in Botsford parish. The connection would have to be back in Ireland. Thanks for the note on Hannah Balard from Botsford Parish. She might be related to Robert Ballard - Ann's husband. I suspect these Ballards came from Cumberland County, NS - from the general Wallace/Pugwash area. Gary from Nova Scotia Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The children's birth order matches with the Robert Ballard family from Dorchester parish in the 1861 census, except that Robert, age 10 in 1871, isn't there -- there is a William, age 1 in 1861 [perhaps his name is Robert William or William Robert and it is the same child]. Do you know if your Ann Carroll has any ties to the Carroll folks in Botsford parish? There is a Hannah Balard who married Thomas Hays on 24 Nov 1851, both from Botsford parish. The Anna Ballard in the 1900 census of Portland, Maine looks promising, as you noted -- she is born June 1833 in Can Eng, mother of head of household Micheal M. I would appreciate a list of Ann's children and their ages from the 1871 Census, also her religion. If it lists a daughter Phebe and a son Michael then it's the Ann I am after. These children were named after her parents. I suspect that after the 1881 Census Ann moved to Maine with her son Michael and is listed in the 1900 Census of Portland. That was my primary reason for trying to determine if she was buried with her husband. Perhaps she died in Maine and her body was brought to Moncton for burial at Elmwood by William Dryden - whoever he was? The Ann I am tracking was born about 1829 and married 5 March 1850 in Moncton. The Mrs R Ballard, buried at Elmwood, in 1905 was listed as 70 - or born about 1835 - too young to have been married in 1850. However, the Anna Ballard listed with son Michael in Maine was listed as 66 in 1900. I will have to gather more information to determine if the Mrs R Ballard buried at Elmwood is actually Ann Carroll. Perhaps Elmwood cemetery has records showing who purchased Plot BAS 1286 ? I will send them an e-mail. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
