Gillcash, ed.], on page 19, there is a Michael Carrol, male, head, age 60, Irish; Labourer, entered colony 1815 [a typo in Doug's answer, I think]. Ann Carroll married Robert Ballard 5 March 1850, both from Moncton parish. In 1861, couple is in Dorchester parish, Robert age 40, Ann age 39; in 1871, Anne Balard is a widow with 9 children. Elizabeth Carroll married Edward Keating on 25 June 1846, both from Dorchester parish. In 1861 in Salisbury parish, Edward is age 50; Mary age 47; in 1871, an Edward Keating is in Salisbury parish, but wife's name is different [Mary may have died between 1861 and 1871, with Edward remarrying]. Martha Carroll & John Hoseman married 28 Mary 1850, both from Moncton parish. I suspect this may be "Horsman". Couldn't find in 1861 or 1871 census transcriptions -- there is a John Horsman, but wife's name is different. Mary Carroll & John Corbett, married 4 Nov 1851, both from Moncton parish. In 1861, John, age 35 and Mary age 27 are in the Town of Moncton. Jeremiah Carroll married Jane Hannigan on 18 June 1867, both from Moncton parish. In 1871 census, parish of Moncton, Phoebe, age 75, widow is in household of William Carroll, age 31, and his wife Susan, age 29. I greatly appreciate your work. I was having trouble verifying her roots and sorting out her children. The obituary you found helped resolve my problems. Isabella was a member of First Baptist Church in Moncton, and so was John Carroll, the subject of my other post. Perhaps I can find the date of his death in their records. As for your other post, without a date of death, I won't be able to find anything for you as I don't live near Moncton or the cemetery you mentioned. The death occurred yesterday morning at seven o'clock, at the home of her son, Mr. Charles G. Polleys, Lutz street, of Mrs. Isabella Polleys, after an illness which had extended over the past five or six years. Mrs. Polleys had been in delicate health all that time, due to a general breakdown on account of old age, and during the last few months had been steadily growing weaker, being confined to bed during the greater part of the time. The deceased lady was seventy-five years of age, and was well known throughout the city. She was a native of Moncton, being a daughter of the late John Gibson, and was the last member of a large family, there being no surviving brothers or sisters. Her husband, William Polleys, died in New York about six years ago. He was quite well known in Moncton, having resided in this city for about a year, and since his death, Mrs. Polleys had resided with her son here. Deceased is survived by two sons, Mr. Charles G., of this city, who has been promine! ntly identified with the Imperial Coal Co., and John W., who is located in Seattle, Wash.. The late Mrs. Polleys had been a member of the First Baptist church of this city for a great number of years, and was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends in this city, by whom she was beloved for her good Christian character. The funeral takes place this afternoon at two o'clock, from Mr. Polleys' residence on Lutz street. A short service will be conducted at the grave. Hope I can reply to this message here as the other e-mail address turned out to be a broken link. My grandmother was a BLAKENEY and her parents had property in Elgin, NB. For a number of years now I have been trying to piece together the family of Michael and Phebe Carroll, and determine Phebe's maiden name. I have identified five children - Elizabeth, Martha, Ann, John and William and possibly a sixth, Jeremiah. I found the obituary of their youngest child, William, who died at Sunny Brae in 1920. But it only covers his own immediate family, as all of his siblings had died earlier. I was hoping the John (buried at Steeves mountain in 1903) may have had a obituary that mentioned his parents, William, and possibly Jeremiah (who died in 1908).
