I found him and his wife Cynthia living in Sackville, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada in the 1851 and 1881 Censuses. They had these children: Joseph, Emily, William, Martin, Edna, Frederic, Wilson, and Clarence. I haven't found Emily in a census, except when she was married to Edward Wheaton. I made the connection that Emily was Martin's daughter from a border crossing that Emily Wheaton made and her brother Welson (Wilson)Cole was the departure contact. Martin and Cynthia are buried at Upper Sackville Cemetery in Westmorland Co., NB and so are Michael & Cynthia Cole. Edward Wheaton is also buried there. I'm taking a leap of faith that Martin (born 1820) is the son of Michael & Cynthia. Can you make the connection for me if possible? I would also like to know what Cynthia, Martin's wife maiden name was. She was born about 1825/1826. Looking forward to hearing from you, Janice Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Note that Allingham is sometimes also written as "Ellingham" Hugh was an immigrant from Ireland. Date of immigration is unknown. Hugh worked in the lumber woods and the lumber yards of St. John's. If anyone has access to information on this or can point me to where I can enquire for details I would greatly appreciate it. Ideally I'd like to find a copy of the marriage certificate or equivalent in order to attempt to identify the parents of Hugh and Mary. Dear List, Does anyone on the list have access to Edith Gillcash's book on the history of Taylor Village, Westmorland County? If I remember correctly, the book is not indexed, but I am wondering whether there is any information in the book about John Sutherland or Jeremiah Philip Bannister and their families. I'd be very grateful if someone could do a quick look-up. George Charlottetown PE

Author: garygibson1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.newbrunswick.westmorland/4722.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you Dawn for your research and help. In Oct 2008 you helped me confirm Ann Carroll Ballard as a daughter of Michael and Phebe Carroll. The Ballards even named two of their children Michael and Phebe. Elizabeth Carroll's marriage to Edward Keating and apparent lack of information on their family was resolved when I found a website detailing the "Irish of Memramcook Valley". http://www.newirelandnb.ca/NB-Irish-Trail/ES-No-7-Irish-of-Memramcook-Valley.html Basically Edward Keating had changed his surname to Gayton. I was then able to find their family in the 1851 and 1881 Census. Elizabeth named her oldest daughter Martha Gayton. Martha Carroll's marriage to John Hoseman gave me problems until I noticed in the 1851 Census of Moncton the family of John Ausburn (23), wife Martha ((23), daughter Eliza (3 mo.) and a servant named William Carrol (11). Further research indicated that Martha married name was actually Osborne. They moved to Shediac where they ran an inn and later moved to Maine. One of their grand-daughters was named Carroll Brewster Osborne. I still have not statisfied myself that the Jeremiah Carroll (1828-1908) who married Jane Hannigan (1842-1925) was a son of Michael and Phebe. However, I do know that Michael's youngest son William (1836-1920)had a son Frederick Carroll (1865-1939)who married Susan Hannigan (1864-1933). Susan was a niece of Jane Hannigan. William Carroll and the Hannigans lived on the Irishtown Road near Sunny Brae. Jeremiah named his first son William Frederick Carroll (born 1870). If Jeremiah were a son of Michael he would have been a brother of the John Carroll whose obit I am searching for. Since Jeremiah outlived John his name may have been mentioned. The Mary Carroll you noted that married John Corbett in 1851 could also be a daughter. My preliminary guess is based on the 1881 Census of Charlottetown, PEI. An Irish born John Corbett (53),architect, is listed married to a Mary (49) with four children all born in New Brunswick. The youngest is Michael age 13. If you Google John Corbett - architect - PEI you will note that he was locally famous. Perhaps PEI Archives has some information on him.
