Margaret is my great grandmother. Her obit 1925, Ventura Co California, said that she came from Point de Chene (Shediac). I have not found any cemetery listings in that area for her father or mother Agnes. I suspect that she also spoke French as she encouraged my gfather to at least read novels in French with a dictionary. There is a picture of her with Joseph Clark and all her children in my Ancestry Clark family tree. Would be very interested to hear if you have had success over the last few years. Descendants of some of her other children have also been seeking info. Do you know the fate of sister Nancy? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My 5th GGF was Thomas H. Anderson, DOB: 1745, Yorkshire, England. DOD: 1841, New Brunswick, Canada. He was married to Mary (Blackburn) Anderson, DOB: January 5, 1748, Yorkshire, England. DOD: January 9, 1828 in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada. They had several children (but none were named Alexander.) I believe Thomas is buried in Tantramar Cemetery. >From what I've researched, Thomas and Mary were some of the earliest settlers of Sackville, NB and sailed on The Duke of York from Liverpool, England to Halifax with Charles Dixon in 1772. -------------------------------------------- "The Duke of York Sailed from Liverpool, England on March 16, 1772 [or possibly during the week ending March 16, 1772]. Arrived at Halifax after a voyage of forty-six days, carrying sixty-two passengers. No period passenger list survives, and the following list has been assembled from secondary sources." (http://www.libris.ca/yrkfam/yrkpas.htm#dy) "It would be interesting to know the names of the passengers with Charles Dixon, and his family, in the ship Duke of York. We are informed there were seventeen families, only one of which, so far as known, settled in Sackville beside Mr. Dixon. Thomas Anderson, with his wife Mary, who were married just previous to their departure from England, and who, after living for a year or so with Mr. Dixon, bought a property on Coles' Island, of a Mr. Alvason, where they settled and became the founders of the extensive and respectable family of that name, many of whom are still residents of Sackville." As the Eddy Rebellion did not succeed, he fled into the Tantramar of New Brunswick. I have also heard that the Benjamin Allen who married Mehitable Cary also served with the British for a time in Nova Scotia, and that his son, Benjamin followed him. Don't know the original source of this story. He was associated with Eliphalet Read of Attleboro, ancestor of many of the Westmorland County Reads, whose mother was a Bucklin. A Bucklin uncle of Eliphalet Read married a Deborah Allen. Her father John Allen was a direct descendant of George Allen of Sandwich. Don't know if John Allen had a grandson named Benjamin, b. ca late1734-early 1735 (based on the 88 yrs. old in April 1823). Some branches of this Allen family went to Killingly, CT (next to Scotland, CT). More possibilities to explore? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It defeats the whole purpose when people are not willing to share with others who descend from the same ancestor. The late Bernice Richard who had examined the possibilities of Benjamin Allen's origins believed that American and English, not Scottish origins seemed the most likely. Benjamin and Mehitable (Cary) Allen are good candidates for parents, but a couple of other possibilities remain. Benjamin was known to have been at Attleboro, Ma, where the Read family came from. In fact there were Allen, Read and Bucklin connections there. Those Allens had connections to the Allens of Dartmouth and before that to the Sandwich Allens. There was a Benjamin and Deborah (Russell) Allen of Dartmouth. This Deborah (Russell) Allen was a descendant of Henry Howlannd of the Mayflower. Then there is Joseph and Rebecca (Fuller) Allen of Norwich, Ct. Think Joseph comes from the Samuel Allen of Braintree line. Rebecca Fuller also a Mayflower descendant. All I have are the two names associated with the kits, but they have not replied to my queries forwarded to them by the Allen DNA Project administrators. They are probably descended from "Shy Ben", but I would like some confirmation. Do you have confirmation from these kits owners that they descend from "Shy Ben"? On the Allen DNA Patrilineage 2 Project ste (http://www.johnbrobb.com/JBR-ALLEN-R.htm), under Samuel1 Allen of Braintree, MA (say 1604-1669) it states that this Samuel Allen is NOT a descendant of George Allen of Sandwich, MA (say 1585-1648). Since the YDNA results of descendants of George and Samuel are very close (GD=0 or 1) it is believed that they are likely closely related, but that relationship is not father-son. It could be uncle-nephew, cousin or even more distant. Oh why do people take DNA tests for genealogy and yet are not willing to share the result!!!???
