    3. Hallelujah, a list for Saint John!! I am searching for information on a family of Boones that emigrated to Saint John from Newfoundland in the late 1800's or early 1900's. Edward John Boone m Alice Louise Driscoll around 1905-07 time frame. I don't know if they were married in Saint John or in Nfld., but their first child, William Boone was born in Saint John in 1907. Edward John Boone died on February 29th, 1916 and Alice returned to St. John's, Nfld. to await the birth of her daughter, Rhoda Lillian, on July 16, 1916. After the birth, she returned to Saint John and placed her children in the care of orphanages. The youngest two, Robert & Rhoda in one orphanage and the three older children, William, Leslie & Kathleen in another. She paid for their care while she got back on her feet, so they would not be adopted out. In 1920, she re-married to a Stanley Mason in the Portland United Church, the same church at least one of her other children was baptized in. At some later point her and Stanley moved to St. Jean, Quebec, (looks like this lady had a penchant for places named St. John!!) where she remained until her death in 1943. Edward John Boone was the son of John Boone and Alice was the daughter of Benjamin Driscoll and Annie Ware Turner who were married in Lower Island Cove, Nfld. Edward was born circa 1871 and Alice was born circa 1881. I did not see Edward & Alice on the 1901 census, but I did however find a William Boone and his wife, Sarah, who emigrated to Saint John in 1888. A check of city directories shows Edward living at 117 Acadia, along with Elijah & William in 1901 so he possibly moved to Saint John after the census was taken. When Edward died in 1916, he and Alice were living 53 Somerset. Interesting to note is that when a contact at PANB checked the 1903 directory, he found William but not Edward. Had he possibly gone back to Nfld. to marry and bring his wife back with him? Does anyone have access to the city directories for Saint John for 1900-1916 that could check for Edward to see when he appears, disappears and reappears. Would anyone know if there are any sort of lists for people coming in and out of Saint John in that time frame. I am at a real brick wall with this side of my husbands family and would love to find the spot that makes all these bricks come tumbling down. That would be my wish for this New Year/New Millennium! Pat Marshall Nova Scotia P.S. Brave Bev, a list without a thousand rules!! I shall try very hard to stick to the two that are most important to you, no flaming and genealogy only!!
