Hello fellow listers: I too would like to say what a wonderful addition this list is. I'm having trouble finding out much about my great grandparents: Joshua Duncan Rolston was born in Saint John in either 1870 or 1872. His parents were John and Eliza(beth), who were born in Ireland. He had siblings Jane, Mary, Margaret, Charlotte, John, Matthew, Sam, Martha. Jane m. a Mr. Dunn, Martha m. a Frank Seeley, Sam m. a Jenny Sproule and Charlotte m. an Albert Carr. Joshua worked for a butcher in the City Market and became disabled when a heavy door fell on his back. He died in 1917. I have been able to obtain copies of his death certificate and burial permit. My great grandmother was Alice Maude Matthews, known as Dovie. She was born in either 1876 or 1878 in Saint John, and died in 1962 in Moncton. The names of her parents are confusing: her obit. says they were William C. Matthews and Mary Jane McAllister, but my mother had also recorded the names Adam Glover Matthews and Elizabeth Jane McAllister. Dovie and Joshua were m. in Waltham, Mass. in 1898, and had 3 children, Margaret Jean (my grandmother), Ronald and John Kenneth, now all deceased. The family lived on Elliott Row in Saint John and attended the Methodist church. If any of these names is familiar to anyone, I'd be very glad to hear from you.
