To all- Many, many thanks for the numerous faxes sent to me -- we do not know how many faxes Mr. Rock received (he will never tell) -- but he must know by now WE want the Post-1901 census released. I agree with Gordon Watts -- on to another step! Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee Brampton, Ontario ------------------------------------- Greetings All. As our effort of the past week, faxing Industry Minister Allan Rock to encourage him to effect immediate transfer of Historic Census records to the National Archives was intended to be a short term exercise, we will now bring it to a halt. We thank all of those who sent their fax. Although we have no way of knowing how many faxes were actually sent, we believe that our effort was a success. I had a report over the weekend that both the Ministry fax, and Mr. Rock's office fax had stopped receiving. My assumption is that both machines had run out of paper which would indicate that they had been busy. Thank you all for your support. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. To all:- We have had FUN sending simple, polite faxes to The Hon. Allan Rock so how about another tactic -- PUBLICITY!! If you are reading this -- please remember many are not -- they read NEWSPAPERS. http://www.freenet.mb.ca/community/media/newspapers/canada.html The above URL will provide one with newspapers from coast to coast -- Depending on the set-up of the paper, you generally find CONTACT for Letters to The Editor on the Editorial Page (in masthead) or in a special list on the online versions. Petitions are still needed for both House of Commons and Senate http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Petition.htm The usual Letter to the Editor is about 200 words but NEVER ask the newspaper to print "as posted" -- it will be ungently placed in File 13 or you will be charged advertising rates. Very important:- YOUR name, full address and your telephone number so newspapers may check to see if the letter is legitimate. If the editor knows you, and especially if you deliver the letter, you will not be called. If you request, your name will be withheld - a newspaper policy. Please remember, it will take the 200 words (does not include your name) to ask for petitions for release of Post 1901 Canadian census records, including the 1906 and 1911. A tip:- When you finish writing your proposed letter, you will likely find it takes less words to say the same thing if you POWER PACK the first paragraph, should contain Who, What, When, Where and How -- and Why -- as many as applicable. Happy writing -- I will assist any writer! Muriel M.
