    1. SEELYE-LINTON-SMITH-CAMERON
    2. Momma Gomez
    3. I have not begun to search for this family in Canada. I am mostly curious to find out if any of these names ring a bell with anyone. My Great-grandmother was Sophia Marie SEELYE. She was born 1843, Saint John, New Brunswick. According to the family legend, her father's name was John SEELYE, no name for mother. John SEELYE and his wife had 3 other children beside Sophia; Harold, Harriet, Amanda who married a Thomas CAMERON. Then the family legend skips a generation...! After the skipped generation the ancestors are supposed to Phoebe LINTON married to Mr. SEELYE. Sophia SEELYE married Colby SMITH,(probably an American) and by at least 1867 they were in Bradley(Penobscot Co)Maine. In 1881 they and their children, Orion,Gertrude (my Grandmother) and Mabel moved to Duluth, Minnesota, USA. I have looked at the 1850,1860,1870 Penobscot County Maine censuses, there is no record of Colby SMITH there. I have also looked at the film of the Penobscot births, which should list my grandmother and her siblings births. No record of these people. I find them in the local census records 1885, 1890,etc) for Duluth and Colby is listed in the 1890 Civil War veterans census...no information, just his name. If any of these surmames are part of your family I would appreciate hearing from you. 3. Ray, The closest to those dates that I know about is the 1889 McAlpine's Directory. I know about that one, because I have some pages of it, that I copied while in Saint John 5 years ago. It's probably at the Archives, but maybe the Public Library, as I think we were in both. Hopefully someone else has a better answer. 3. I would appreciate it if everyone on this list who knows of a book, microfilm, on-line resource "useful to someone doing genealogy in Saint John or St. John Co., NB" would send me a private email with the details. At least once a month I'll send the "Research Resource Asset" list to the list, so that newcomers will know what exists and what does NOT exist. After we get the list going, I'll ask those of you who own any of these assets and are willing to do lookups to let me know, and we'll add that to the asset list. This also includes those of you who make regular visits to local research facilities in your area, that have Saint John and St. John research assets. Those of us who reside in the US, will not have access to those local sources, but I get a trip to the DAR Library in DC every other week, and next time that I am there I will check to see what if any resources that they might have. I will start on the "Research Resource Asset" List immediately. 3. I am researching the McCLINTOCK family from Saint John. Samuel McClintock emigrated there in 1836 from Ireland. He married Sarah McAFEE, daughter of Angus McAfee and Ellen McVICAR. Samuel and Sarah had 11 children, many of whom died young. Samuel died in 1892 and is buried in Fernhill Cemetery. Sarah went to New Hampshire with daughter Elizabeth who married George FAXON. Mary Jane McCLINTOCK married John HUTCHINSON in Saint John and moved to Haverhill, MA. Helen McCLINTOCK married William DeSILVA in Saint John and nothing further is known about her. 1. BOONES
    2. harrypat
    3. Hallelujah, a list for Saint John!! I am searching for information on a family of Boones that emigrated to Saint John from Newfoundland in the late 1800's or early 1900's. Edward John Boone m Alice Louise Driscoll around 1905-07 time frame. I don't know if they were married in Saint John or in Nfld., but their first child, William Boone was born in Saint John in 1907. Edward John Boone died on February 29th, 1916 and Alice returned to St. John's, Nfld. to await the birth of her daughter, Rhoda Lillian, on July 16, 1916. After the birth, she returned to Saint John and placed her children in the care of orphanages. The youngest two, Robert & Rhoda in one orphanage and the three older children, William, Leslie & Kathleen in another. She paid for their care while she got back on her feet, so they would not be adopted out. In 1920, she re-married to a Stanley Mason in the Portland United Church, the same church at least one of her other children was baptized in. At some later point her and Stanley moved to St. Jean, Quebec, (looks like this lady had a penchant for places named St. John!!) where she remained until her death in 1943. Edward John Boone was the son of John Boone and Alice was the daughter of Benjamin Driscoll and Annie Ware Turner who were married in Lower Island Cove, Nfld. Edward was born circa 1871 and Alice was born circa 1881. I did not see Edward & Alice on the 1901 census, but I did however find a William Boone and his wife, Sarah, who emigrated to Saint John in 1888. A check of city directories shows Edward living at 117 Acadia, along with Elijah & William in 1901 so he possibly moved to Saint John after the census was taken. When Edward died in 1916, he and Alice were living 53 Somerset. Interesting to note is that when a contact at PANB checked the 1903 directory, he found William but not Edward. Had he possibly gone back to Nfld. to marry and bring his wife back with him? Does anyone have access to the city directories for Saint John for 1900-1916 that could check for Edward to see when he appears, disappears and reappears. Would anyone know if there are any sort of lists for people coming in and out of Saint John in that time frame. I am at a real brick wall with this side of my husbands family and would love to find the spot that makes all these bricks come tumbling down. That would be my wish for this New Year/New Millennium! 3. I am searching for any info on the above names. My grandfather was DANIEL HARRIGAN and in 1895 he was the lightweight boxing champion of Canada. He had sisters who married into the McMANNUS and CARROLL families. This would have been in the 1890's, I think. My grandfather and his brother, CORNELIUS HARRIGAN, left Canada and went to California. His sisters remained in Saint John, married there and raised their families. Does anyone know of these names? Daniel visited there in about 1948 and I think, attended a wedding of one of his niece's. We have no names, only pictures. Any help at all would be appreciated. Rayene Sperbeck San Diego __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! 3. Elizabeth and list, I wish I did, my husband's ALEXANDERs are stuck in VA about 1850, and I can't get past a certain brick wall. I generally disapprove of Surname lists on email lists as they mess up "searches" for years later for thousands of people. But I will use an very abbreviated form of query to list my Canadian lines here today, and will then submit them with the details as the time permits over the next months. While we're at it, I'll share just a smidgen of my internet mail list philosophy. While I am a member of other lists with rules that run to the 6th page, I have only one rule and one guideline for each of my lists. The Guideline is: This list is for genealogy and the discussion of anything related to that, leave all other stuff to other lists. And the lone Rule is: We MUST be nice to each other. The difference in the rule and the guideline is, I will remove a member immediately if personal attacks take place, no warnings. While if the discussion strays from genealogy, I will try very hard (and with many cautions) to bring it back to our main purpose here. Now to my lines: ALLEN, Frances Caroline (wife of John Alexander "George" MUNFORD) lived NB and NS. CAMPBELL, Nancy: Wife of William MUNRO, who died on ship on way to NB, do not know yet if she made it to NB, or just her sons did. It shows some kind of a connection to a William MUNFORD and Barbara HEFFLER/HOFFLER that were married 28 Apr 1820. I had previously found this MUNFORD family in the 1851 Census.
