Mary Joan (Hanley) DICKIE Age 81, Born February 17th, 1924 in Chatham, New Brunswick to Sylvester and Elizabeth Hanley; passed away peacefully on August 11th 2005 in Lynnwood,Washington. Joan enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served from 1943 to 1945. She married fellow serviceman Lt. Arthur Dickie on November 9th 1946 in Moncton, New Brunswick and they immigrated to Seattle, WA in 1954 with their three children. Joan was a devoted wife of 46 years, a loving, caring mother and a beloved aunt and caregiver. She supported third world children, was an advocate for animal rights, and an accomplished baker. Joan's spiritual life was guided by her strong belief in the teachings of the Catholic Church. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband Arthur, her brother Raymond Sr., and her sisiter Evelyn Conlon. She is survived by her sons Sherwood (wife Mary Ann), Brian (wife Eleanor) and Keith (wife Kathie), her grandchildren Tonya (husband Todd), Bernadette, Jennifer (husband Ruben), Aaron, Alison, and Trevor, her greatgranchildren Ty and Leila, her nephews Raymond Jr., and Tom, and her nieces Patricia, Ellen , Nancy and Cathy. We will miss her presence, her wisdom, her wealth of knowledge, her lifeline to generations of family past, her unique sense of humor and most of all, her delicious butter raisin tarts. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday August 18th at St Marks CAtholic Church, 18033 15th PL. NE, Shoreline, Washington 98155. Viewing will be held in Sullivan Hall at St. Marks from 1:15pm to 1:45pm on the same day. In Lieu of flowers , the family suggests memorials to PAWS. (No mention here about burial) Their is a photo of this gal in her military uniform attached to this obit, that was published in the local paper of "The Seattle Times".
