To all those interested The Northumberland County Death Register Index has indeed been added to the cumulative index RS141 at the PANB website. It is part of the RS141C1 series, which continues to be indexed. A more complete abstract of the contents of the register are held in book form at the library by the Miramichi Branch Genealogy Society. Unfortunately, as Alison and Cathy have pointed out, there are a large number of deaths that simply were not registered, so are not included in the index. Interestingly enough, there were individuals who were entered more than once. Also, some deaths may have been registered but, for some reason, were not entered into the County Register books. One should also try to check the Provincial Returns of Death because some of the information may have been forwarded to Fredericton before the county clerk entered it into the County Register book. The years vary somewhat but this series is also being indexed with the cumulative index. You may still need to rely on cemetery, burial or church records to locate your person of interest if they were "apparently" not registered. When at the PANB site RS141 search page click on the "information" at the top of the page. You will find a description of the various series that make up the index. Regards, Michelle Falkjar
