My maternal grandmother was Mary Anne Murphy from Newcastle. Both of her parents died when she was a child (she was 8 when her mother died & 10 when her father died), leaving her and her siblings orphaned. The children were split up and sent to various families. My grandmother married John Marshall Hubbard and they lived in Nelson the whole of their married lives. They both died in 1960 (she had just turned 65 that year) and are buried in St. Patrick's Church cemetery in Nelson. She Not much to go on but does anyone have any information on this Murphy family?
