Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0NC.2ACE/426 Message Board Post: I am writing to ask for any information available concerning 2 Mathesons who may or may not be related First, Hugh Matheson, a stage driver for Kelly in Chatham died in Pictou NS after sailing from Miramichi to Pictou on the Lady Head. He had been in "delicate" health for some years according to the newspaper article. He weakened and then died right after arriving in Pictou. He had been going there to visit 'friends'. The article did not mention his age nor relatives but did say he was a 'young' man. He died in late June 1861. He is not in any census listings for North. Co. NB. Second, Thomas Matheson was the parish constable in 1828 in North Esk, Northumberland Co. He was overseer of highways 1835-6 and lived at Millstream during the 1830's This info came from the Old North Esk book by Hamilton. There is a possibility of a daughter according to this book. There is a report in the 1851 census of a Thomas Matheson who worked for the Davidsons in Nelson but I am not sure (neither was Hamilton) that this is the same Thomas Matheson. Information on these two men would be greatly appreciated. My thanks in advance Judy

Greetings All. For those interested, I am being interviewed this afternoon afternoon by both CBC Television (Toronto), and CBC Radio One in Vancouver. The subject is the Census and genealogy. The television interview is to be aired on tonight's (Monday 1 May) issue of 'The National'. The radio interview is for 'On the Coast' and I believe it will be on 'live' about 3:30 PM Pacific time. Ensure your place in the history of Canada. On Census Day, 16 May 2006, answer YES to allow your information to be made available to your descendants in 2098. Ask everyone you know to do so as well. I have Johnston people born in that area who I've never been able to locate. Here is the family. All children but youngest born NB. Family history said "they went to the Miramishi". I've had no luck in locating them. David Johnston born ca 1808 Scotland Margaret (Adam) Johnston born 1810 Scotland Mary born 1833 NB David born 1835 NB Thomas born 1838 NB Peter born 1840 NB Jane born 1842 NB James born 1844 NB John born 1849 NB Christina born 1854 Upper Canada The first I found them anywhere was the 1851 census in Hamilton Ontario. It is from there I get births and verification as to at least where they were born. All their deaths and marriages say born NB but the census says Lower Canada. I believe that included the Miramishi area. Peggy Large UE "I'd rather die while I'm living than live while I'm dead". thanks to Jimmy Buffett!
