Author: dsdrane Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.newbrunswick.northumberland/1226.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Elaine -- Hello. I believe I am descended from the "Aron Thompson" from Chatham #439. Aaron Thompson is my gr-gr-grandfather and one of the most stubborn brick walls I've had in my research. The first verifiable documentation I have is a marriage certificate with Emily Welton in Hardwood Ridge, Sunbury Co., in 1865. The second is a death certificate from Auburn, Maine (where I grew up), in 1903 stating that his body had been returned to "Newcastle". Because Aaron & Family had relocated to an area called "Newcastle Bridge" in Queens Co. before finally emigrating to Maine, I always assumed that was where the body was sent. Two pieces of inforamtion seemed to contradict this: one, an older cousin had a recollection that Aaron was originally from the Miramichi area before arriving in Sunbury Co.; and, two, I found a baptismal record online from Chatham for an Aaron who is roughly the same age as the Aaron I was looking for. Circumstantial, yes, but also pretty convincing. The baptismal records name a Robert Thompson as the father. There are other children listed as well. The last child baptized is Isabella, presented by "Mrs. Robt. Thompson (widow)". I recently received an e-mail from someone saying that Robert's wife was the former Margaret McFarlane (which made sense because one of the children listed was a "Janet McFarlane Thompson"). This same person later forwarded a copy of their marriage "certificate" from 1822, naming Robert as of the Parish of Glenelg and Margaret as of the Parish of Chatham. The witnesses were Alexander McFarlane and Edw. H. Cutler. Margaret remarried a William Woods in 1844, but as you see in Glenelg #161, she is widowed again by 1851 and living with her son Joseph. One more piece of corroborating information linking my Aaron is the fact that his eldest daughter was named Margaret...perhaps after her paternal grandmother. If you Google "Aaron Thompson" and "Drane" you should be able to read up on all my Thompson posts. I notice you are also looking for Thompsons in Queens Co. Considering my Thompson made his way there, too, it looks like we're on parallel paths. If you'd prefer to contact me directly, my home e-mail is [email protected] Best regards, David Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Well, looks like we have a match. I'm not 100% sure my Aaron is the son of Robert & Margaret (McFarlane) Thompson, but I'm definitely in the high 90s, percentage-wise. Aaron's 1st daughter was named Margaret. Family lore has him coming from the Miramichi area (before relocating further inland to Sunbury Co.) And there are precious few Aarons, period, at this time and in this place. Do any of there other children match up with your records (i.e., other than Janet)? Do you have additional information on the origins of the McFarlane or Thompson families...I'm assuming they were Scottish and 1st generation??? All the above is very exciting, because I've been trying to tie my Aaron to his roots for years. He's been one of my most stubborn brick walls.
