Can you give me an unbroken line that ties everyone together on your branch? Alice (b. abt 1854) did have a brother James (b. abt 1843). Their parents were David Cashen and Catherine Unknown. Alice married Patrick COlford, son of Edward Colford and Ann Doyle (m. 2 July 1826, St. Patrick's RC Church, Nelson, NB). Perhaps Edward and John (m. Eliza) are brothers. Yes, those are possibilities for the use of McManus as a middle name, although the Death Certificate lists Margaret GILL and Thomas MCLEOD as parents, that isn't necessarily so. Her marriage certificate to Cornelius gives middle name initials as barely readable M and /or C. I have searched Ancestrys Drouin Records and found a few possible clues. There was a Dr. McManus in the Blackville area. Could she have been named out of gratefulness to the doctor and family? There is a 3 year old Thomas Mcleod in the 1851 Census, (a possibility) and a few Gill families, but no birth for Eugenia. In NB Strays, I found a number of Gill families in a 1901 Census in BC. I do have my Ancestry and World Vital Records subscriptions and have been combing. There is a Jane Mcleod in a Connell family in an early Census found at PANB , I believe. Memory is foggy on the details. This could be her but no proof. Thanks for input. The middle name could be a clue--I recently found a daughter from an ancestors first marriage (that I knew nothing about). She had been adopted by her mother's sister and she used her biological father's surname as her middle name.
The middle name is often the surname of the mother. You might want to check in that direction. I have been trying to unravel the relationship between Jane Grey LOBAN and William QUANN. The two are first found together on the 1881 census and again in 1911 when the relationship for Loban is "? Foster." I believe they are connected through Sophia McCrae who married James Quann in July 1876 but I have been unable to correctly identify Sophia's parents--would welcome any information that might help. It is also unclear who the parents of Jane Grey Loban were--I suspect she was the daughter of John Loban and Catherine WALL but I have found no real proof of this and would appreciate any information that might clarify this. Thanks Debbie

Keyran's (Keiran?) age would make him very eligible as a brother or cousin. This could make him a younger brother or cousin, who leads the way to the New World, by ten years. Could be...I just have no record of such. My family scuttlebutt says that my Tom's family was from the Bantry Bay area. Who knows if that is true. The Irish records suffered devastation, and are daunting to even the most skilled genealogist. It took several years for me to find my family here, and is my last chance to find out the Irish origins, but I have drawn no further results...So, if you were to find even a tenuous connection, I would love to hear back from you. For some reason, there were a lot of Bowes' in the area. Some Irish, some Scotch Irish, and some English Bowes'. Some seem related, others missing by miles. There is also another problem, for me, in that there are many of the same first names; Tom, John, etc. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It is with sadness and a personal sense of loss that I advise of the passing of Muriel M. Davidson, my Co-chair on the Canada Census Committee. I never met Muriel face-to-face, however during the eight year course of our campaign to regain public access to historic Census records we had grown close through our frequent telephone calls and email messages. Muriel was a tireless worker on our Census campaign but even in the busiest periods of that effort she still found time to assist others in their search for their personal ancestry. Following our successful campaign Muriel continued working to coordinate efforts to index the newly released Census records through www.automatedgenealogy.com . In addition to working on the Census campaign and indexing projects, throughout her lifetime Muriel volunteered her services to others in various ways, some of which are detailed in her obituary below. Muriel died peacefully, with family members at her bedside, some time before 1:00 am Tuesday 10 June 2008. Those wishing to send cards to express their personal condolences may send them to Family of Muriel M. Davidson 25 Crestview Avenue Brampton, Ontario, L6W 2R8 Emails may be sent to her daughter, Lynden Cowan at [email protected] . Rest in Peace Muriel. You will not be forgotten. Gordon A. Muriel was a member of Floral Rebekah Lodge #369 (I.O.O.F.) and also a member of Beaux-Art Brampton. Over the years, she was involved in Boy Scouts, contributor to numerous newspapers, coordinator of the Obstetrical knitting program at Peel Memorial. Muriel was very involved in geneology research, first for family and then worldwide assistance, including publications. She was instrumental as the head of the Canadian Census Committee in getting the Canadian Government to release the 1911 Census (allowing the release of family information for future generations). This earned her an awarding of an Order of Canada Year of Volunteers award presented by Senator Lorna Milne.
