1851 is the earliest. Best to try for church records. LDS has a lot of them. There are also cemetery transcriptions, but these are paper and can be purchased from the Miramichi Branch. I was recently looking for employment records for the ICR. When I checked with CNR they directed me to the national archives in Ottawa. I've been in touch with them and am awaiting the results. They told me that they had some records but their holdings were not complete so I'm anxious to see what they come up with for me. There is a railroad archive but I didn't find what I was looking for there and have deleted the bookmark but think I found it by searching on CNR (or may ICR). Hello, Is the 1851 census the first one recorded? Are the cemetary transcriptions online? My GGG-grandparents lived in the Blissfield area from about 1820, but left in the 1840's. My GGG-grandmother died before the family left and can't find any record of her death. Thought maybe an earlier census would provide a little background. Jay -- Jay

Hi David The Miramichi NBGS has published the 1851 Census for Northumberland County which may help you in your search. We have been doing Cemetery Transcriptions but unfortunately we have not completed the Chatham area yet. We plan to do so this summer Dianne
David: To all of these, have you studied the 1851-1901 censuses for Northumberland County? Since the families stayed there, this set of censuses should provide many of the dates and connections you are seeking. These are in the process of being published by the Miramichi Branch of the NBGS. Also contact Dan Johnson who has published (and can search for you) excerpts from all the newspapers. Hi List. Just found out that an ancestor, who lived in No.Co. was employed by the CNR. Can anyone advise whether employee records are available? If yes, would appreciate details of how to apply and to whom. TIA. Laurette Gulvin nee Arbeau.
The Bathurst Heritage Commission wishes me to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who showed their support for their bid to have the Centennial/Library building as the new site for our local museum. The City Manager today informed the President of the Commission that he was avalanched with email support and assured her that the final decision will be up to City Council itself and not the committee reviewing the applications. It looks very good for them (the Commission) now, and it can be said that your letters have really weighed in and made them realize that there are friends out there (all over Canada, and the USA) willing to go to bat for a very worthy cause. Again thank you, Sincerely..Patsy Hennessy
Dear Listers, So many of you are from this area and still have ties to it. Therefore this plea goes out to you for your moral support. The Heritage Commission and the Genealogy group wish to join forces for the purpose of having a true museum/archival centre. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The building in Bathurst housing the current Nepisiquit Library, or the Centennial Building as it is more properly known, is currently under consideration for disposal by the City of Bathurst. This building was paid for completely by the citizens of the area through private donations and door-to-door canvassing. Therefore, it would be only right that the Bathurst Heritage Commission (Museum) be housed there. The Commission has put in its request for said building, and there is a committee of 5 persons making the decision. The names of the members of this committee are not being made public, thus there is no recourse for appeal before the fact. There is concern on the part of those of us sincerely interested in the heritage of our area, that the committee could possibly vote in favour of a private enterprise taking over the premises. This would be a travesty of justice and a slap in the face to the 'people' who paid for it. Please voice your support for our cause, which is to have a true Archival Centre for this area. You can reach the mayor of Bathurst, Jay Mersereau at bthrst@nb.aibn.com Or you can go to the City's webpage at http://www.bathurst.ca where there is an email link on the front page on the left-hand side. If you wish to help, it is suggested either 1) copy paste the above first 3 paragraphs to the mayor or 2) A simple statement such as "I support the Bathurst Heritage Commission in its bid for the Centennial Building." Would be great as well. The idea is to get them aware that they should do the right thing for this area. ....sincerely hoping for your support ....Patsy Hennessy
