    1. Bertha and Vivian Wrye
    2. Douglass Grant
    3. I am searching for more information on the mother and daughter listed above. According to an obituary from the Truro (NS) Daily News in 1931, Vivian Wrye was the "ward" of the Rev. Edward J. Grant and his wife Nancy F. Woodworth. The former was the brother of my g-grandfather, and died in Truro in 1927; Nancy died there in 1931. The obituary goes on to state that Vivian then went to live with her mother, Mrs. Bertha Wrye, R. N., in Newcastle. (I am assuming that is Newcastle, NB, although the obit does not say so explicitly.) If anyone can provide any further information on Vivian Wrye, a date of death, any descendants, etc., that information would be sincerely appreciated. Doug Grant Sydney, NS

    2. Moses Hull Sr was a Connecticut Planter who received a land grant in Guysborough NS in 1785. Moses children included a son Samuel, who had a son John born in 1798. John became a minister and according to NS reference material was possibly a minister in NB in the middle 1800's. Just thought I would send in this query on a surname interest. Bob Hull

Well, maybe she will invite me over to NS and I'll stimulate her to get involved; its sad when only a few are interested, but you and I are and that is a great start. I have eight grandkids, somewhat young, ages 1/2 to 16 almost, but maybe one of them will be interested. I have much of my genealogy recorded but not all of it verified of course. If you are related to the Sewells then you, as I, am related to many Essex, MA families; same ones I am related to. This past winter I did about 20 families. Also, I'm writing a book on PERSONALIZING ESSEX COUNTY, and I have about 20 chapter's completed in addition to my 20 family chapters. I go to Canada/NB quite often and did so as a kid as well; I like it there and still have many relative to meet and interact with, both alive and dead. The custom's man asked me why I had gone into Canada last week or so; I said to visit with the living and the dead. He said he had never heard that one as a reason. DWB

    3. Thank you for the nice additions to my source documentation. Now if someone could just find a record of birth for Abigail Sewell, daughter of Dominicus, I'd be a happy camper. This is what I have for her: {From Nashwaak Bicentenial Assn (Application for Old Soldier's Pension): On June 22, 1838, Abigail applied for relief. She stated that her husband, John Sutherland, had served for eight years as a Private in the 42nd Highland Regiment and that she was now 63 years old, very infirm, and unable to support herself. She stated that her son, William, had died the previous Fall and that the only living son had a family of his own. Her son, William, had died at the residence of Thomas W. Underhill, Blackville Parish, at the age of 23. William was Thomas' brother and Underhill was Thomas' brother-in-law through his sister Mary Ann. Possible birthdate July 17, 1769 at Beverly, MA [Vital records of Beverly, MA]} The problem with this birth date is that it conflicts with the info you have just given me that Elizabeth was born August 27, 1769. Ah, the mystery continues. I have corresponded with several people about this family but no one seems to have more than is already online, which is where I got much of it. I had not heard of the references you gave, and I have never traveled to Canada to do research. The sad part is my mother spends all summer every year in Nova Scotia but has no interest in genealogy! One even moved to Miramichi along with my Sutherlands. So, yes, I am a cousin through Abigail Sewell. I live in Southern California where it has been on the low 100s for several days and the fruit trees smell like cooked fruit! Most of the fruit has fallen because of the heat. I need dates of birth for Jane Bubar Sewall, wife of Thomas, and also for Thomas Unfortunately according to Fred Burnett there are a lot of graves with no stones in the Upper Brighton Cemetery. Jane and Thomas, nonetheless, have a large stone with their dates. Unfortunately I did not copy his dates, but when I get a digital photo of the stone, I will have them. Her dates I copied from a book which Mr. Burnett keeps on that cemetery. I did not know that Jane was a Bubar. Thanks for that. Her death date is: April 14, 1882 or 83, according to his record. I do not have a birth date for Jane. RECORD BOOK OF THE BURIALS OF THE UPPER BRIGHTON FREE BAPTIST CEMETERY KEPT BY THE UPPER BRIGHTON CEMETERY ASSOCIATION, jULY 4, 1989. IN "MY" RECORDS, taken for an internet source on the Descendants of Thomas Sewell and Mary Norton (if they were Dominicus's parents) I have this death date for Thomas: January 29, 1875. Mr. Burnett showed me an interesting document entitled: EARLY VITAL RECORDS OF THE TOWNSHIP OF YARMOUTH, NS 1762-1811... which includes births deaths and minutes of the township. This record shows that a Thomas Sewell (the one I believe to have married Jane, but I'm not sure) son to Dominicus Sewell and Sarah [Thorndike] was baptized at Yarmouth on February 1, 1767, page 30. Now, there is also a document, RECORD OF THE FIRST CONGREGATONAL CHURCH OF YARMOUTH, NS, which Mr. Burnett showed me. The church was organized in 1767 and was shortlived lasting only a few years perhaps or less; he could not remember. Nonetheless, it seems to conflict with the Township records noted above with respect to one Thomas Sewell's baptism. The church record says that Thomas Son of Dominicus and Sarah Sewell was baptized on September 13, 1767 (page 33) and that their daugher, Elizabeth was baptized on August 27, 1769. (page 35) It also says that Sarah Sewall their mother had been a member of the First Church of Beverly [Essex, MA] (page 6). She was born in Beverly of course. Fred said that this was a rare document and that he did not think that many researchers used it to document their genealogy. Had you heard of it? I had not. I'd like to know where Dominicus and Sarah Thorndike Sewell are buried. That will be another trip, probably to Maugerville, Sunbury, NB, Canada, eh? DWBeattie in Maine USA PS: Keep in touch. I'll look up some things on Olive Jane Sewell Clark. Do you know much about her? Thanks. DWB Mr. Burnett also believes that there are some Sewells buried in a place once called Beckaguuimack near Hartland. Do you know of this place/section of Hartland? Across the river to the west, I guess somewhere.

    1. Re: [CAN-NB-NOR] Cemeteries
    2. Last weekend I visited a lot of cemeteries in Brighton Parish with Fred Burnett (in Rockland, Cold Stream, Peel, Stickney). We found a very few Clarks -- James and wife Margaret, who may be my great great great grandparents in the Regular Baptish Cemetery in Rockland-- below the hill toward the west of the Hillside cemtery in Rockland) and one Sewell, Thomas and Jane, my third great uncle, brother to Olive Jane (Sewell) Clark, in the Upper Brighton Cemetery. Are there are there some smaller, "hidden" cemeteries in Brighton Parish where I might find Clarks, Sewells? Of course we found Mansfield Clark in the Stickney Cemetery where many Hoveys are buried next to Lawrence Hovey's huse (he is the uncle of my deceased cousin, Ivan Sherwood of Stickney, then Bristol, Carleton, CO and then tcarborough, Ontario. Thanks. Don Beattie in Maine USA.

    3. Is there a transcription available for Upper Brighton Cemetery? I need dates of birth for Jane Bubar Sewall, wife of Thomas, and also for Thomas. I also need dates of birth and death for your Olive Jane and her husband, and her siblings. My descent is through Abigail Sewell Sutherland, sister of Thomas. I would really like to fill in my chart for Thomas and his siblings and their children.
