I have very little info on any of these people except what I have found on PANB, LDS, etc.(and some family sites that have no interest in this particular line) I would love to find out more about Robert Mackay Jr and his ancestors. I can't find a thing about Elizabeth Bedckwith's father Ichabod except that he was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. I think he might prove to be an interesting character but I can't even find out where he was born or who his parents were. Any info on any of these names and their siblings, spouses, children, parents, ancestors, descendants, stories, photos, places and things would be of interest to me and greatly appreciated.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0NC.2ACE/311.1.2.1.1.1.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Hi Diane, I really should have got the fact that there were two Jonathan W. Myers’ in Orono; especially as I had seen death notices for the younger. The younger’s marriage is at: http://portalx.bisoex.state.me.us/pls/archives_mhsf/archdev.marriage_archive.display_info?v_id=228441 and notes: Jonathan W. Myers of Orono, ME m. 1DEC1945 Wilsie M. Glover of Tullahoma, Tennessee A classic case of ‘name’s-the-same’ Genealogy; and I should have thought about that. Especially since, at the Social Security Death Index, at family search, it is indicated that this Jonathan W. Myers was very likely the Jonathan Myers of Bangor, Gleazie and Glenburn, Penobscot Co., ME, b. 11MAR1917, d. 31AUG1998. To make my error worse, at a Legion website at: http://www.bairnet.org/organizations/legion84/taps.htm was a list of deceased members of what appears to have been the American Legion Post 84, Orono; including Jonathan W. Myers and Alexander Myers. The three items suggest this younger Jonathan was in WWII, possibly served in Tennessee, and brought his fiancee home to get married after the war. The locations suggest a possible relative, but of a definitely younger generation. Breau (Breaux, Brault, etc.) would suffer from the inability of officials (census enumerators for example) to spell surnames; especially Acadian surnames. Also, the person who originally provided the information may have heard it, but never had seen it spelled. As a rule, I only note parents, without following up on them; unless there is a special reason to do so. Acadian families, while often researched, are scary; so I tend to avoid them. Very complex. All I have is that amongst the earliest settlers in Tabusintac were: Anselme, Jacques, Charles, Francis and Victor Breaux; and that Victor was a brother of Anselme, arrived in the area about 1775, and later founded nearby Neguac. Jacques Breau is considered the first to have settled in the area. If you go to: http://www.angelfire.com/nb/tabusintac/history.html and follow the link to: http://www.3acres.org/tabusintac/ there is a further link to subscribe to a mailing list of various researchers on Tabusintac Families. Once subscribed, you can post a query, and I assure you there will be someone who knows more than I do. You also really want to visit: http://www3.bc.sympatico.ca/charlotte_taylor/index.htm for basic, background info. I would also suggest looking at: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&db=bellisle_hall&id=I00451 In this latter site, it keeps mentioning ‘Miramichi, Northumberland Co., NB’, at times (mid-1700’s) when New Brunswick and Northumberland Co. did not exist. This is mis-leading, as Miramichi is a (relatively) new city, comprised of amalgamated municipalities. It would be more appropriate to say something like, ‘ . . . on the Miramichi in that part of Acadia which is now New Brunswick.’ The words, ‘on the Miramichi’, indicated the river (a rather large area), rather than the city. There is also a website at: http://www.pinette.net/genealogy/acadian4.html on Acadian families. Some of this website is misleading. The Armorial section is particularly misleading, as it fosters the myth of ‘family coats-of-arms’. Especially as some of the arms displayed are obviously modern, and may have nothing to do with Acadians. The LeBlanc arms (the colourful one) is a ‘family’ coat-of-arms in that it belongs to the LeBlanc Family Association, and presumably could be used by active members of the association. The Sicard arms are probably actually French; and I doubt that the Sicards’, Secord’s , Sicar’s in North America have any connection of a meaningful nature. Besides, the Sicar’s and their descendants, the Secord’s, were Huguenot’s, not Acadians. Simoneau (note the tricouleur effect and the maple leaf) may be arms granted to an Acadian of that name, a family association, or assumed by someone. The Boulanger arms do not resemble anything I would expect of a pro! per heraldic authority. (The term, ’family crest’, by the way is a giveaway indicating general ignorance. Anyone selling them is generally looked upon with disgust by those familiar with Heraldry.) In spite of my uneasiness about the appropriateness of the armorial, there are some very good segments, including the 1698 census of Port Royal which has: Germain SAVOYE 46; Marie BRAULT (wife) 36; Germain 16; Francois 14, Marie 12; Pierre 8; Jean 5; Magdeleine 4; paul 2; 12 cattle, 14 sheep, 13 hogs, 16 arpents, 12 fruit trees, 1 gun. So, there seems to be a lot of information; it’s just a matter of tracking in down. Thomas

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0NC.2ACE/311.1.2.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: One of my compilations is a work I call, 'Tabusintac Families'. These families are so inter-related that I needed something to sort them out. It is by no means complete, nor necessarily correct. There is an on-line version, but very much out of date. I will try and extract some basic information on the Ross family, below. The first part is likely a repeat, with your comments added, followed by a bit on Helen's (or whatever her name was) parents. Usually, I only go to three generations, which generally brings us to a relatively modern period. 23. HELEN ROSS b. ca. 1856. While there is some question on the matter, Helen (Ellen) seems to have been also known as Eleanor Mary Ross. The question is complicated by the continuous custom of using Helen, Ellen, Eleanor and even Nell pretty much interchangeably; a custom than can be traced at least from the mid 1700’s to the mid 1900’s. An example is the ‘Elinor Robinson’ who m. Moses Austin, and who appears to have also been called Ellen, or Helen. It seems, then, that Helen is: ELEANOR MARY (ELLEN/HELEN) ROSS b. ca. 1856-7, m. JOHN SINCLAIR MORRISON (b. 5DEC1842), s/o Lewis and Mary Laudwick (Loggie) Morrison. Steven Murray reports a letter, 20MAY1980, from Ellen (Myers) Steven, d/o Mary (Morrison) Myers, which gives Ellen’s parents as Marjorie Brough and Joseph Ross. John (age 38) and ‘Ellen’ (age 25) Morrison were in Alnwick Parish in 1881. John was a farmer and the family were all b. NB. Scottish and Presbyterian. Children were: Charlott (6), Mary (4), Joseph (2) and Margey (b. OCT1880.) John appears to be the widower, John Morrison b. 5DEC1844, in Beresford Parish, Gloucester Co., NB in 1901. His children were: Annie (21AUG1882), Louis (15DEC1884), ‘Marget’ (20AUG1885), Ellen (18DEC1887), Ida (2FEB1889) and Walter (3AUG1893.) As John’s birth-date, 5DEC1844, seems to be an error for 5DEC1842, and because of the names of his children; Margery and Louis (Lewis), I assume this is the same person, and include these children below. It is Joseph’s birth record which gives Ellen’s maiden name: Child: MORRISON, JOSEPH HENRY Sex: M Date of Birth: 1878-10-29 (YYYY-MM-DD) Place: BURNT CHURCH County: NORTHUMBERLAND Father: MORRISON, JOHN SINCLAIR Mother: ROSS, HELEN Code: 1878-M-120 Microfilm: F18765 children: 231. CHARLOTTE MORRISON b. ca. 1875, possibly the Charlotte Morrison d/o John and Ellen (_____) Morrison b. 16MAY1875, bpt. Burnt Church; by the Rev. E. Wallace Wait(s) 232. MARY ELEANOR MORRISON b. ca. 1877 (Mary Ellen Morrison b. MAY1877?) , m. Orono, ME 6JUN1900 JONATHAN WILLOUGHBY MYERS (m. 2nd 1DEC1945 Wilsie M. Glover of Tullahoma, Tennessee.) This would seem to be the Mary Myers in Chatham, Northumberland Co., NB in the 1901 census. She is given as b. 2DEC1870, and her husband, Isaac Myers, as b. 1APR1871. Children were: Joseph (1DEC1895), George (31MAR1897) and Wilfred (5OCT1900.) Diane Redden (Northumberland Co., NB board, Ancestry.com, 3SEP2005) notes, however that: she is not the Mary Myers in the Chatham Northumberland Co. NB 1901 census. She did marry a Myers but he was my great-grandfather Jonathan Willoughby Myers. They married in Orono, Maine and raised their family there. They had several children one of which was my grandfather. One of his sister's was Ellen Myers Stevens who supplied some of the family info years ago. 233. JOSEPH HENRY MORRISON b. Burnt Church, Alnwick Parish, Northumberland Co., NB 29OCT1879 234. MARGERY MORRISON b. OCT1880 235. ANNIE MORRISON b. 21AUG1882 236. LEWIS (LOUIS) MORRISON b. 15DEC1884, possibly the Lewis L. Morrison d. Northumberland Co., NB 21APR1925 237. MARGARET MORRISON b. 20AUG1885 238. ELLEN MORRISON b. 18DEC1887 239. IDA MORRISON b. 2FEB1890 (2FEB1889 in 1901.) Steve Murray (e-mail, 28MAR2005 to Shirley Moulton), notes that Ida’s birth certificate gives her as b. 2FEB1890, that her father was John S. Morrison (age 56, ‘Scotch’), and that her mother was Helen Ross (33, English.) Also that Ida was their 11th child; suggesting at least two children are missing from this list. 23J. WALTER MORRISON b. 3AUG1893 Helen's parents: 2. JOSEPH ROSS b. ca. 1806-10, m. Tracadie, NB 18NOV1849 MARCELLINE BREAU (b. 1NOV1830), d/o Germain and Barbe (Barbara) (Benoit) Breau. Capt. Louis Robichaud’s company of militia had a Joseph Ross, age 40 years, 26AUG1850. In the 1861 census of Tabusintac were: Joseph Ross 52 Marcalin wife 31 James son 10 Ann daughter 9 Helen daughter 5 Charlotte 3 children: 21. JAMES (JACQUES) ROSS b. DEC1850, bpt. Tracadie, NB 16MAR1851, d. 3MAR1924, m. 1st 26APR1874 ÉUGENIE VIRGINIE (VIRGINIE ÉUGENIE) BREAU (b. ca. Tracadie, NB 21MAR1875, d. 1959; m. 1st Gloucester Co., NB 21SEP1896 Frederic Mazerolle), d/o Pierre and Justine (Vienneau) Holmes 22. ANN ROSS b. Néguac, NB 20OCT1855 (ca. 1852) 23. CHARLOTTE ROSS b. ca. 1858 and James' parents: DONALD (or DAVID?) ROSS, dragoon in the York Volunteers (New York Volunteers?), m. l'île Boishébert, NB by James Thom, JP 6SEP1799 EUPHROSINE SAVOY (b. Negauac, NB 14FEB1782), d/o Amand and Anastasie Isabelle (Breau) Savoie. On a list of recipients made in Newcastle, NB 17MAR1840, is listed Mary McRaw, widow of “Neel” McRaw, who was a private of the 42nd (Black Watch) Regiment; Elizabeth Robertson, widow of Duncan Robertson, who was a private of the 42nd (Black Watch) Regiment; Sarah McIntyre, widow of Duncan McIntyre, who was a sergeant of the 42nd (Black Watch) Regiment; Jane McKinnon, widow of Grigor McKinnon, who was a sergeant in the New York Volunteers; Amy Gunn, widow of James Gunn, who was a private of the 42nd (Black Watch) Regiment; Isabella McInnis, widow of Angus McInnis, who was a private in the 76th Regiment; Irozen Ross, widow of Donald Ross, a dragoon of the York Volunteers (New York Volunteers?) and Angus McDonald, who was in the Queen’s Rangers. Although James Gunn is indicated as being of the Black Watch, it may be of some interest that a James Gunn was of the Highland Company (John MacKay, captain) of the Queen’s American Rangers 25DEC1779-23FEB1780. Angus McDonald does appear at the same time, and there was a Murdoch McLeod (a different person than he mentioned elsewhere here?) Sgt. Roger McDougall was on the Miramichi as early as 1785. It is difficult to identify any members of the Queen’s Rangers with Loyalists on the Miramichi, because of the relatively common names. Even so, there appears to be a fair representation of this Scottish element of the regiment, combined with hints of connections to the Black Watch. I suspect that some members of the Watch were ’attached’ to the Rangers; which attempted the novel concept of a all-round unit (light infantry, grenadiers, regular infantry, highlanders, rifle company, dragoons, cavalry, hussars, German troop of cavalry, and artillery.) The Highland Company, while wearing the Ranger’s green jacket (basis of the modern Canadian green uniform), were kilted; presumably the Government (Black Watch) sett. This would be similar to members of the 17th Light Dragoons later being found in the Rangers’ cavalry troop. Daniel Strang had been recruiting for this regiment when he was hung as a spy. Donald Ross has also been suggested as a member of the Royal Highland (Black Watch) Regiment of Foot. A similar list dated 13FEB1843, although not as detailed, lists, amongst others,: John Noble age 85, Sarah McIntyre age 71, Amy Gun age 63 (the age is clear, but according to Carl Stymiest, should be 83), Isabella McInnis age 69, Elizabeth Robertson age 67, Irozen Ross age 61, Mary McGraw age 65 and Mary McDonald age 75. Most of these (especially Elizabeth Robertson and Amy Gunn) first receive these pensions in 1840. Children: 1. DONALD ROSS b. ca. 1801-4, d. early FEB1874 m. 1JUN1827 CHARLOTTE HELEN HONORIA (MARY CHARLOTTE or CHARLOTTE MARY) SAVOY [62] (b. Néguac, NB 14MAR1808, bpt. Roman Catholic Church Néguac, NB 24JUL1808 (as d/o David Savoie and Helen Hierlihy), d. Burnt Church, NB 9FEB1884), d/o David and Eleanor (Hierlihy) Savoy. (Donald Ross, b. ca. 1800, is also said to have m. ‘Elleanor Valley’.) 2. JOSEPH ROSS b. ca. 1806-10, m. Tracadie, NB 18NOV1849 MARCELLINE BREAU (b. 1NOV1830), d/o Germain and Barbe (Barbara) (Benoit) Breau. Capt. Louis Robichaud’s company of militia had a Joseph Ross, age 40 years, 26AUG1850. The following on Eleanor Hierlihy may be of interest as well: ELEANOR (“HELEN” “HELENE”) HIERLIHY b. Tabusintac 11FEB1787, d. 1871, m. 11NOV1810? (or 1804) DAVID SAVOY (b. PEI 2MAY1779, d. Burnt Church, Northumberland Co., NB 15(or 18)JAN1869 aet. 96? years), s/o Amand (also called Menon) and Isabelle-Anastasie (Breaux) Savoy, (Amand Savoy, b. Shepody, NB ca. 1743 d. 1811, was the s/o Jean-Baptiste Savoy, one of the Acadians who had escaped Fort Cumberland by tunnelling through the walls; or he was the s/o Jean-Baptiste‘s brother, Jean Savoie (1710-1791) and Anne Landry. Isabelle-Anastasie Breaux was the d/o Amboise and Marie (Michel) Breau, and was the sister of Victor and Anselme Breaux, and Jacques Breaux, his cousin, was the s/o of either Anselme or Victor.) Eleanor Hierlihy was the daughter of Sgt. Philip and Charlotte Taylor. See: CHARLOTTE TAYLOR, HER LIFE AND TIMES, Mary Lynn Smith, 9OCT2000 at: http://www3.bc.sympatico.ca/charlotte_taylor/ I, also (as is almost everyone from Tabusintac) am a descendant of Charlotte Taylor through the Blake's and Robertson's, so we are some sort of first cousins. To attempt to suggest our relationships by marriage would boggle the mind. The Breau/Breaux and Savoie/Savoy families are heavily connected to many of the Tabusintac families, as well as to other Acadian families. I suspect there are far better websites on these families which would have more intricate summaries than I could offer. To be descended from one of the escapees from Fort Cumberland is a matter of some prestige amongst Acadians. I hope this gives you a starting point. Thomas
