Something going on,maybe? Also,I still cannot find any proof of Isabella's death, but I seem to have found a Mary Morrell aged about 40 in the 1881 census for Prince Edward Island. 2. Bob via
    3. Hello and Merry Christmas to all on the Listing: I am looking for any and all help on getting more information on Samuel F. Brown and Catherine (Fraser) Brown. Samuel and Catherine immigrated from Ireland about 1845 or 46. He got a land grant from Fredericton on 8 Dec 1854 for 100 acres in the parish of Weldford, Kent County. He was shown as a Shoemaker at that time. In the 1861 Census he is shown as a Cordwainer which is another name for a shoemaker. He and Catherine had 3 sons and a daughter with them as far as we can tell. I am thinking he and his family could have come over on a lumber ship in 1845 or 46. Ireland was sending ships over with passengers and taking back lumber to Ireland. They could have landed at Richibucto. Any help I can get about him and his family and about his neighbours in the area would greatly appreciated. Bob Brown roblen@eastlink.ca

Author: johns1179 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.newbrunswick.kent/1192.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Lauri, Thanks for the edited post. The generic problem I have had with the early Sutherlands in NB is that the names George and James were pretty common names, and not being inside NB today, I can't just go down to the local church or cemetery and check things out. For example, with James there is an age conflict between the 1861 census age (b. 1826) and the gravestone age (b 1820). http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nbken/CemST_And.html I have a copy of the 1861 census, and I thought the cemetery gravestone age was a better fit for James, and that the census, like many census reports, could have wrong data. That assumption could have been very wrong - the gravestone could have been read incorrectly. I've just checked my backup records for Samuel Kent and find none, so I can't support the link at this time. I do have a record of a George Sutherland marrying an Elizabeth Semple on 27 Oct 1826. Both were listed from what appears to be the Parish of Cranston, NB. I don't know where that is, and I'm not certain this record is my George. I suspect it may not be. I am aware the parishes of Wellington and Carleton were created in 1814 as part of Northumberland County and that Kent County was formed from Northumberland County in 1826. Weldford Parish was established in 1835 from part of Richibucto Parish. Timing is everything, eh. The Weldford 1871 census shows both George sr. and James unlisted (both were dead by this time) and Mary (Lawson) Sutherland is shown as the head of the family. Ideally, I would have liked to reviewed the 1851 census, but as I recall, that census was somehow destroyed. Thanks for your ongoing help. I found the following record of a marriage in Richibucto in 1839. If this is your George, then the date would imply that this is George's second marriage, given James' birth, also the fact that he seems to be marrying a widow. This could explain the significant difference between the sons' ages: Daniel F. Johnson : Volume 8 Number 1 Date January 8 1839 County Northumberland Place Chatham Newspaper The Gleaner and Northumberland Schediasma m. 31st ult., Richibucto (Kent Co.) by Rev. James Hannay, George SUTHERLAND / Mrs. Elizabeth MANSON both of Weldford parish. George is alive on the 1861 census, living with his son James. Next door is Daniel Sutherland, born about 1841, living as a farm servant at the Ferguson/Graham's. A Daniel Sutherland, son of George and Elizabeth, aged 41, born Richibucto, is found marrying Agnes Stuart at Lower Cove, Cumberland, Nova Scotia on 25 Jan 1882. Could he be the same Daniel? And thus, James' brother or 1/2 brother? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. In comparing( AUTOSOMAL DNA ) with 10 different Thomas William Cail descendants one of the descendants 3rd grandmother was the sister of Thomas Cail all of the descendants showed no shared Dna with Frederick's Dna .Frederick's origins are Northwest Ireland (Ulster) according to his dna markers ' some matches are with surnames O'Kane Mckeen Keane, Cain, McCain and other variants spellings, also a connection with the surname Malloy.Thomas William Cail origins are supposedly English,Frederick's origin! s are definitely Northwest Irish, the ethnicities don't match this should resolve the question that Thomas William Cail was not the father of Frederick Thurrott. Author: lpasher Surnames: Morton, Thompson, Wales Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.newbrunswick.kent/1191.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: According to the description of the 1861 census on Ancestry.com, the 1861 census in New Brunswick was carried out on August 15th of that year. However, most of the enumerations were carried out later that year. So, while the census shows that Ann Lucinda (Jr) was 11 months old, had the census for that parish had been carried out in Nov or Dec of 1861, she would have been born in Jan or Feb of 1861, depending on the actual date. The 1901 census shows her specific birthdate as 10 Feb 1861. Her 2nd marriage to John H. Wales on 02 Dec 1919 in Manchester, New Hampshire, shows her age as 58 - which would imply an 1861 birth year. That's all I have for paper records to support her birth date - which I have recorded as 10 Feb 1861. I've been working with the 1901 census date, since everything else supports an 1861 birth year.
