    1. [CAN-NB-CHARLOTTE] Nova Scotia Seafarers
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wNC.2ACE/1136 Message Board Post: Did your ancestors follow the sea? This is to let folks know of a brand new mailing list and message board on RootsWeb. We just started it in the last month. With a long and glorious maritime tradition in Nova Scotia, the topic of this list and board is the genealogy and history of Nova Scotia as it pertains to the seafaring community and the ships they sailed on. I am descended from the Cann line in Nova Scotia and New England, and many of my ancestors captained or otherwise sailed on many of these ships. I invite anyone to join us, and share our interest in this area of genealogy. If you would care to subscribe to the list, send the usual "subscribe" (without the quotes) message to: NOVA-SCOTIA-SEAFARERS-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com for "mail" mode or NOVA-SCOTIA-SEAFARERS-D-REQUEST@rootsweb.com for "digest" mode To visit the message board, go the RootsWeb Message Board home page, then click on "browse all topics," then "occupations," and finally "Seafarers of Nova Scotia." I will be looking forward to seeing you all there. David E. Cann nova-scotia-seafarers-admin@rootsweb.com

    1. [CAN-NB-CHARLOTTE] Update to St. George, NB Parish Page
    2. Charlene Beney
    3. Marilyn Leland Bennett has donated some pictures for the site. Thank you, Marilyn. Two are on the 'Historical Pictures' section. One is a picture of the St. George Catholic church in the 1940's. The other is a picture of the small pumper the fire department used as it looks today. That went on the page entitled 'Fire Department'. She also donated some tombstone pictures of the Grierson Burial Plot. These were put on 'Churches and Cemeteries' page-line 37-Private Burial Plots. There is a picture of the location of the stones, and close-ups of James Grierson and wife Margaret Kelly's stone, Clement Barne's stone, and Clement Grierson and wife Jane Henderson's stone. I added two pictures of tombstones taken by Anita Grearson of the Sophia Beney tombstone and the Wilkinson Tombstone in the Lee Settlement Cemetery- Line 33 on the C's & C's page. Also on line 18 Anglican Baptisms-I have added the baptisms for the year 1856. Barry L. Hatt has donated another of his stories, this one entitled 'Uncle Enoch's Wake'. You can find this under the Newspaper Stories section of the page. It is very enjoyable. Any broken links or errors let me know Charlene Beney--co-ordinator for St. George, NB Parish Pages http://www.rootsweb.com/~nbpstgeo/

    3. I have added most of the rest of the pictures of the stones at the Second Falls Cemetery-Old. I know I have missed at least one because it is worn smooth and I cannot read the writing on it. There may be more, but for now it is too buggy in Bonny River to look :-). You will find it on my Churches and Cemeteries page under line 3-Old Cemetery. Let me know if any of the links do not work. On the other hand I don't pretend to have a complete list....you should check the Grand Manan web-site of Ken Corrico, and the Grand Manan Gen-web site. It would seem that the odd sister out is Emily, the others seem to fit the stated birth dates fairly well...I would greatly appreciate it if, should you find further info, to let me know hat you find...MAC

I have three women named McFarlane from rockport who all claim origins in Grand manan. They are likely sisters, as their ages are close. The spelling of the name is with an e, not a d. Don't know if that is a problem for you. First: Lucy McFarlane bd. abt 1806, Grand Manan, NB &Gershom Maxwell bd. abt 1802, NB dd. 1861/1871 m. 11 Aug 1831, Westmorland Co., NB | Wilford Maxwell | bd. abt 1834, NB | William Maxwell | bd. ABT 1853/1855, Rockport, Westmorland Co., NB | & Emma E. Ayer | bd. 16 May 1855, Sackville, Westmorland Co., NB | dd. 13 Jan 1902, Amherst, Cumberland Co., NS | m. 25 Dec 1874, Amherst, Cumberland, NS. I also have an Ann/Anstress/Anstris McFarlane, listed in the 1861 Census as coming from Grand Manan. She was born abt 1815. She was married to William Ward who was a grindstone quarryman in Rockport NB (at the head of the Bay of Fundy). In 1861, they had five children at home ranging in age from 10 to 22. This is what we know to date: William Ward bd. 16 Jan 1814, Sackville Par., Westmorland Co., NB & Ann (Anstris) McFarline bd. abt 1815, Grand Manan, NB m. 17 Sep 1835, Westmorland Co., NB | Susan Ward | bd. abt 1837, NB | Esther Ward | bd. abt 1839, NB | Mary J. Ward | bd. abt 1842 | Lucy Ann Ward | bd. 6 Nov 1844, NB | & Judson Tower | bd. Sep 1839, NB | m. 7 Jan 1889, Westmorland Co., NB | William Ward | bd. abt 1847, NB | & Rebecca Jane Crossman | bd. abt 1842, NB | m. 20 Oct 1866, Cumberland Co., NB | Olivia Ward | bd. abt 1849, NB | & Hazen B. Tower | bd. abt 1837, NB | m. 10 Jul 1876, Westmorland Co., NB | Dorothy (Deborah) Ward | bd. abt 1851, NB And finally Emily. She was also from Grand Manan, according to the Census. I would like to know more about her in particular as she is an ancestor. She married Thompson Maxwell Ward (brother of William): bd. 22 Jan 1820, Sackville, Westmorland Co., NB dd. 3 Dec 1880 occ. Grindstone cutter & Emily McFarline bd. abt 1821, Grand Manan, NB dd. 3 Jun 1874 m. 29 Jun 1843, Westmorland Co., NB | Cynthia A. Ward | bd. abt 1843 | Caroline M. Ward | bd. abt 1846, NB | & Joseph L. Tower | bd. abt 1859, NB | m. 25 Jan 1882, Westmorland Co., NB | Cyrus H. Ward | bd. abt 1847, NB | dd. 8 Jul 1888 | occ. grindstone maker | & Melissa D. Tower | bd. 2 Jun 1849, NB | dd. 3 Apr 1931 | m. 15 Jul 1871, Westmorland Co., NB | Joseph E. Ward | bd. abt 1849, NB | dd. 1917 | occ. Grindstone cutter | & Annie D.
