Hello Dick, I'd say it is in Ward 2. That address in 1947 was the Empire Hotel. Ward 2 is just east of Ward 3 and it runs from Notre Dame Avenue on the north to the Red River on the east and along the Assiniboine River on the south and goes north up Colony Street-Balmoral St. Karen >From: "Richard McElhoes" <rmcelhoes@hotmail.com> >Reply-To: CAN-MB-WINNIPEG-L@rootsweb.com >To: CAN-MB-WINNIPEG-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [MBWINNIPEG-L] 1901 Census >Date: Thu, 7 Aug 2003 11:49:06 -0500 > >Could SKS tell me in which Ward of the City of Winnipeg would the east side >of Main St. between Broadway and York be for this Census? >According to the map, it should be Ward 3 >According to the 1901 Winnipeg Henderson's Directory, my gr.aunt, Margaret >S. Hi Karen - Ah yes - the good ol' Empire - tipped a couple of glasses there, on occasion. Thanks for the info on the Wards. I guess the maps they show on the Census site are outdated. They show Wards 3 & 4 as comprising most of present day downtown Winnipeg, with Ward 4 being north of Portage Ave. I'll give Ward 2 a try. Thanks, again, Karen.
