    3. Hello Listers: One of my cousins sent me a photocopy of a subpoena received by my Grandfather William Blackwell, along with a three other people to appear as witnesses in a manslaughter case preferred against Wells and Norton. It was dated May 29, 1919 and they ordered to appear "and herein fail not" on May 30th to the Police Court. Thinking along modern lines I thought that it would be a long shot to find any reference to this in the paper (trail probably months after event). However, two things worked in my favour. The justice system was much quicker in 1919 and it was during the General Strike resulting in some very small newspapers. While checking obits I figured I would check the end of May to see if there was a reference to trail in progress. Found an article in the paper on May 27, 1919. Headline "Three Are Arrested Following Inquest" Sub Headline: "Apprehended on Verdict of Corner's Jury Enquiring Into Woman's Death" ..."The jury after hearing the evidence returned the following verdict: "The said Mrs. Ethel Laundrie came to her death on the 22nd day of May, 1919 at the North Winnipeg hospital from septic peritonitis resulting from an illegal operation not performed at said hospital" The article goes on to summarize some to the evidence including a statement from a neigbour one of the other three subpoenaed. But what really got my interest was that Mrs. Laundrie made a statement to a nurse shortly before her death that was witnessed by her sister. Person named as sister was my aunt meaning that the decreased was also my aunt. I am interested in getting a transcript of the coroners inquest as well as the trail. Does anyone know where these can be obtained and the procedure for ordering them. Jacki Humphrey
