Hi I am looking for any information on my 2x great grandfather James John Wilson. He was born in Winnipeg in 1886, possibly West Kildonan area. I have not been able to locate any birth records of any sort. I have tried Vital Statistics, the Diocese of Ruperts Land and the Manitoba Archives. I was told that his father Jacob Wilson was Scottish and came over from the Orkney Islands to work for the Hudson Bay Company. I have not had any luck there at getting anything solid. His mother Henrietta Rise (Rose) was French and Cree is what I am told. James John Wilson was raised Anglican and went to a boys Mission School of some sort in Winnipeg. The one school that I was told that existed back then did not have any information on such a name. I know a little about him as an adult as my grandmother is still living and has filled in some of the gaps but as far as his parents go no one knows anything about them. I would like to find a baptism record so that I can continue researching, hoping it will give some information on his parents. My grandmother says that she remembers her father saying that his birth was in a church bible and so I know that it is out there somewhere. Does anyone have any ideas on where I could look next. I am fresh out of ideas as where to look next. I have his death record and his marriage record but nothing that gives me any great leads as to where he was actually born. He only wrote Manitoba on his marriage record. His homestead record also says Manitoba. My grandmother and family members say it was Winnipeg for sure. I would welcome any suggestions from anyone. I have been lurking about on the list for a few weeks now and everyone seems most helpful. Many thanks in advance Barb Toppozini Surrey BC Canada BToppozini@bc.sympatico.ca
