Hello! My husband's family were all based in Winnipeg and surrounding area: A large group of the HILTON family came to Headingly about 1889 from Russia (where they managed the estates of noblemen until the political atmosphere became too volatile) via Bedford (?), England. There were at least two brothers, though possibly more, and their families. They were: Henry HILTON and his wife Mary Ann GODFREY. They had 8 children: 1. Emma HILTON, b.1872 married ? GIBSON in Winnipeg and was member of the Traveller's Aid Committee in Winnipeg. Because she spoke Russian, as well as other Eastern European languages, she was helpful in welcoming the new immigrants arriving by train into Winnipeg. 2. George, b.1876 3. Henry b.1878 4. Lizzie b.1879 5. William b. 1881 6. Rose b.1882 7. Winnie b. 1884 8. Margaret b.1889 James HILTON, d.1921 Winnipeg and his wife Ellen BOMMER, d. 1925 Winnipeg. They had 10 children, most marrying in Winnipeg: 1. Ann Elizabeth HILTON, b.1867 married John Parker BUCKLE 2. Emma HILTON, b. 1869 married Harry STRANGE 3. John Henry HILTON, b.1870 married Helen ISBESTER 4. George HILTON, b.1872 married Bertha Maude HARVEY 5. Alice Maud HILTON, b. 1873 married Herbert WADGE 6.
