To all: I am doing a history of the Swiss, de Meuron, and de Watteville soldiers who settled in Lord Selkirk's Red River Colony between 1817 and 1821. They virtually all left the area after the flood in June 1826. Some of the Swiss names of interest are: Aebersold, Chatelain, Hofmann, Marchand, Monnier, Quinche, Rindisbacher, Scheidegger, Schirmer, and Stramm. The soldiers were Bain, Bruchler, Ehrler, Fournier, Gerber, Langet, Ostertag, Paquet, Polander, Schmid, and Verring. There were others. Any information from interested parties is welcomed as is contact with descendants of this group who later settled in American Midwest. Sincerely, Maralyn A. Wellauer swissmiss@execpc.com
