Within Canada, the cost will include GST and applicable PST. Orders mailed outside Canada are tax exempt. Shipping Charges: Under 100 pages: no shipping charges apply Over 100 pages: Canada: $3.00 United States: $5.00 Overseas: $8.00 Due to the large volume of inquiries we receive, we are unable to undertake page counts of files prior to ordering. However, most Canadian Expeditionary Force service files contain an average of 25 to 75 pages so the cost per file averages $5.00 to $15.00. Content: The files include attestation (enlistment) papers, medical and dental records, and other documents relating to training, discipline, pay and discharge or notification of death. Some sample documents from a CEF file can be found in our on-line exhibition Canada and the First World War. Please note that battles and exact postings overseas are not entered on personnel service documents. For information about military operations, we suggest that you consult the official history of the Canadian Army in the First World War, entitled Canadian Expeditionary Force 1914-1918, by G.W.L. Nicholson (Queen's Printer, Ottawa, 1962). This book is available in many Canadian libraries and through inter-library loan. Methods of payment: Orders under $40.00 CAN must be prepaid. Credit card: For prepayment by VISA or MasterCard, please include your credit card number and the expiry date. When the copies have been produced, the exact amount of the order will be charged to your credit card account. Money orders and personal cheques: Prepayment may be made by cheque (Canadian residents) or international money order (non-Canadian residents) in the amount of $40.00 CAN, payable to the "Receiver General for Canada" and mailed to the National Archives with your request for copies. After the cost of the order has been deducted, any refund from the $40.00 CAN will be sent to you within 30 days after the mailing of your photocopy order. Only residents of Canada can send a personal cheque for their prepayment. (Note: the $40.00 prepayment amount is standard for all copy requests for National Archives' documents.) Number of copies permitted: Researchers are limited to a maximum of 5 files per request and 250 pages per calendar quarter. Response time: Orders are processed within 30 days of receipt.
