My gg grandfather William Wellwood b. 1816 in Inverkeiting, Fife, Scotland was an illegitimate birth and his fathers name was not mentioned. However on his second marriage in 1860 he listed his father as James Wellwood who was a Missionary Minister in Upper Canada. Since Upper Canada is Ontario, I have been searching for him there with no luck. Last week I came across a web site called Early Canadiana Online which has many books online. I conducted a search using the word "Wellwood" and was surprised to find three references. Two of the references were titled (What women say of the Canadian north-west) which is very interesting. The section on Minnedosa quoted a Mrs. James M. Wellwood (Rev) as a ministers wife. Since the Wellwood name is not very common this may be the family I have been looking for during the past 15 months. James would be about 65 in 1860. If anyone has a copy of the Minnedosa Cemetery Transcriptions I would appreciate knowing if the list includes James Wellwood or any members of any WELLWOOD family. The Early Canadiana Online web site may be useful in your research. The articles I looked at contained several different towns with quotes from several people. You may find one of the names your looking for. The URL is as follows, http://www.canadiana.org/cgi-bin/ECO/mtq Thanking you in advance, George Purvis Euclid Ohio
