I just discovered the Winnipeg list. I am searching for information on my wife's g-g-grandfather, Rev. Dr. Griffith (or Griffiths) Owen CORBETT, who was an Anglican minister in Headingley, Manitoba, Canada, in the mid-1800's. He was born in England about 1830. I recently came across a citation stating that G.O. Corbett's parish in Canada was named "...after his former parish, Headingley, Leeds, Yorkshire." G.O. Corbett married Abigail Butt or Budd, probably about 1850 in England. Corbett returned to England in 1864 but left his wife and children in Manitoba. My mother-in-law descended from their daughter, Mary Elizabeth Corbett, who married Charles Holland. I have been fortunate to have recently found new information on Rev. Corbett, including a scandal he was involved in during the early 1860's. However, I am trying to piece together more facts on this individual so that I can research his roots (and those of his wife Abigail) back in England. I would appreciate any information or advice that anyone might be able to pass along considering these two persons (G.O. Corbett and his wife Abigail Butt/Budd) and/or their families. I am also generally interested in the history of Headingley in its formative years and on the Holland family. Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated.
