    3. Hello Judi, Mitchell: Hon. Brigadier-General, Colonel, J.B., Architect, Commissioner of School Buildings, Public School Board, Winnipeg. Born at Gananocque, Leeds county, Ontario. Son of George and Jane (Brown) Mitchell. Married Helen Richmond Brough, of Gananocque, 1878 (deceased); Margaret Booth of Scotland. Has one son and two daughters. Was educated at Gananocque High School, Montreal Art School. Family came to Canada from Edinburgh, Scotland; settled at Gananocque, Ont. Colonel Mitchell came to Manitoba in 1874, served with the North West Mounted Police, 1874-77; Fenian Raid, 1866, 1870 (Medal and two Clasps); signed as witness with Govenor Morris' Treaty with the Wood and Plain Cree Indians, Fort Carleton and Fort Pitt, August 23 and September 9, 1876; lieutenant-colonel of the 100th Grenadiers, 1912-20; took 100th Grenadiers to Valcartier in August, 1914 (11th Battalion, C.E.F.); raised 100th Battalion and took same overseas in 1916. Was appointed to present position, 1893, in this capacity was responsible for the many splendid school buildings of the city. Clubs: Canadian, Western Canadian Military Institute. Societies: Masonic, I.O.O.F., A.O.U.W. Recreations: Reading, rifle-shooting, amateur photography. Is a staunch Imperialist. Residence, 74 Furby St., Winnipeg.
