Karen - Gord Adams here Several months ago I posted a query on the Winnipeg site about a CNR railroad head-on collision. My grandfather William Adams was the engineer on one of the trains and was extremely fortunate to escape injury. His counterpart on the other train was apparently not so lucky. I understand the speed of collision was quite high. According to my father, my grandfather apparently saw this coming a half mile away or so, set the brakes and bailed out just in the knick of. My father does not recall exactly when this happened - only that it did. My father was born in 1918. After putting the query to the Winnipeg site I sent off a query to the CNR and to the Manitoba Free Press looking for the article. I was disappointed by both agencies and was referred to archive centres. I figured I would have to wait until I got back to Winnipeg. Any chance this train wreck is the one I'm looking for? The header suggests a CPR train story - not a CNR story. By the way, my thanks and bouquets to you as well. You have been extremely active this past two weeks! First story was on December 18, 1918 and said that sixteen people burned to death in a tourist coach. Second story was on December 20, 1918 on page 6 and page 9, and said there were 14 dead (12 adults and 2 children). Another story was on December 26, 1918. The name Tobin was not included but there were 2 or 3 people that were not identified. I looked for the entire month and could find no obit or mention of either Samuel or Hazel. Just thought you'd like to know. Karen ==== CAN-MB-WINNIPEG Mailing List ==== Canada GenWeb Awards http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/6625/cgwaward.html Vote for your favourite CanadaGenWeb site
