    3. Hello Joyce, Anderson: James, Retired Farmer. Born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, December 7, 1847. Son of Hugh and Elizabeth (Brown) Anderson. Married Mrs. Elizabeth Stackhouse, widow of John Stackhouse. Anderson family came to Canada in 1860, by sailing vessel, settled near Lucknow, Huron County, Ontario. Mr. Anderson came to Manitoba in 1877, worked on C.P.R. construction; bought a yoke of steers and a wagon, and after a journey of a week homesteaded near Plumas in 1877; has purchased much land and property with the years; was a member of the Council of the Rural Municipality of Westbourne for 38 years; on resigning in 1924 was presented with an address and a chain and locket by the members of the council, as a token of esteem. Postmaster of Plumas for 12 years; in the early days the office was known as Richmond, as there were several offices of that name, some confusion ensued in the delivery of mail; Mr. Anderson who had lived in California in his youth renamed the office Plumas (This is the Spanish name for California). Member of the Board of the Agricultural Society. An Orangeman. Independent in politics, taken a keen interest in everything pertaining to the good of the community, and is locally known as "The Mayor of Plumas."
