Joyce, I don't know of any similar index in Canada. It is very difficult to access information on 20th century Canadians. We went up to Ottawa for Thanksgiving, because, of course, it was just a workday there, and spent a couple of days in the Canadian Archives. We found very little, a good collection of city directories of Canada, some limited immigration records, 1919-1924, and lots of ship lists, not indexed. A nice trip, Ottawa is less than 4 hours drive from our home here in northern Vermont, but did not accomplish much genealogically. If you find such a thing, please let me know.
