For those of you interested I will enter what I can find at present. I have several very hard to find books on early MB on order that likely will have more info. Grey Nuns had been tending ill for yrs but officially started the St Boniface Hosp 1871. Four Sisters of Misericorde opened mission in Wnpg 1898 to care for abandoned and forlorn children. There is a 1903 photo of the hospital, maternity only until 1916.Now M. Gen Hospital Wnpg Gen Hosp est. 1873 occupying various locations downtown until it settled on McDermot's land 1875. Old Tache Chronic and Geriatric Hosp in St Boniface torn down 1873. to build new Tache nursing center. After 1882 the Grey Nuns turned one wing into orphanage andhome for old people and from 1930's devoted mostly to care of elderly. 1899 St. Roche isolation hosp. opened in St Boniface to help St. Bon and Wnpg Gen cope with comm diseases. Wnpg Gen opened Pest house 1900 for small pox. 1900 small private hosp on Bannatyne used for typhoid. There were the Wnpg Municipal Hosp built as temp hosp in Riverview, 1911, King Ed Mem 1912 and King George Isolation Hosp 1914.Princess Eliz Hosp for Chronic ill 1950..all evacuated during the 1950 flood. but the King Geo was operating 1952 polio epidemic. The above were known as the Municipal Hospitals. Middlechurch Home of Wnpg orig 1883 provide dhome for unwed and un- protected women, also nursery, then elderly people. Grace Hosp on Arlington 1906 started in rescue homes for girls and women operated by Salvation Army. Grace Genrl Hosp on Booth Dr. 1967. Victoria Gnrl Hosp opened 1911. Wnpg Childrens Hosp founded 1909 with one baby!in a private home. later in bldg on Aberdeen 1912 until 1956, Became Holy Family Home. Shriners Hosp for Crippled Children 1949 Deer Lodge Hosp 1958 began as home for vets of WW 1 in Deer Lodge Hotel. The above info comes out of the Wnpg 100 yrs book.
